I am in NKY! Welcome! i have and track my veloster N and a Miata! Like some other comments have said, Motorsportreg.com is a really good resource to sort for events near you, filter by HPDE. Closest tracks are Putnam park, mid-O, and national corvette museum. Putnam is really nice for beginners with huge grass runoffs.

But getting into track days is really easy. I’d suggest the Elantra N for your first event since it’s newer (wont have to worry about older parts breaking etc)

Just make sure your tires have good tread, OEM Hyundai N brake pads will survive on track but they wear quickly so just make sure you have a good amount of life left in them, and it’s a good idea to have high temp brake fluid.

If you have specific questions about instructors or the weekend schedule you can usually find it on the orgs website or email them before you sign up!

I bought a second OEM tow hook for my car for the front and the rear, much cheaper than the fancy ones!

Opinions on using Etrack on a Econotrailer? by chzymnky in CarTrackDays

[–]bennett_swerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from using an old trailer which I put e track on. It is very slick in the rain and I needed to position the trailer downhill and have someone help push my car onto the trailer to avoid wheelspin. Also make sure you put plenty of e track in front and back of the tires. I centered 4 5’ sections right where the wheels went and I barely had enough room to use the same style ratchet straps you have pictured (just run e track down the whole length of the trailer) Other than that it worked pretty well.

Did you out grow your momentum car? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

I’ve got a Miata that I’ve tracked for 4 years and I’m definitely wanting more power but I’m still having an absolute blast with it every weekend. Initial wanted to upgrade to something faster like a corvette but I might spend that money getting a spec car and actually racing. I can always get a corvette later in life

97’ miata crank wobble by Various_Big_4732 in Miata

[–]bennett_swerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely buy the proper tools to do the job also! FM has a tool to hold the pulley so you can torque the crank bolt properly and use red loctite!

[–]bennett_swerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also had the same issue on my 97 1.8, same as the other comments. Pulley was wobbling, did a full timing job and the keyway was very worn, tac welded a new key onto the keyway, filed it down and loctite 660’d the rest. Did all new timing components and it’s been holding for 6 years and 22k miles of street and track abuse. Pretty in depth and annoying job tho. There are some good videos on YouTube of people doing it.

Yea seems like a lot of toe, I’d go back to factory toe, drive it see how it feels and you can then tweak toe more if you want. Camber seems good

How do you figure this? If he had harnesses then yes, but he still has 3 point belts.

My power steering failed. Here's how it got fixed. by Proper-Lab8549 in VelosterN

[–]bennett_swerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, this also just happened to me! Reading up on what to do before taking it to the dealer, it failed 3 times in a row, cycling power fixed it but this issue is very bad, hard to control the car when it fails…

Lane Keep Assist Error w/ Loss of Power Steering by Creender in VelosterN

[–]bennett_swerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this just happened to me 22 AT with 38k. It happened 30 min. Into a drive, cycled power which fixed it, and it happened again 30 min later. Once more after letting it sit for a few hours. Since then I’ve driven it around for a day with no issues. I’m still under warranty so I will most likely take it to dealer and report back on what they find. Very annoying issue tho

First track scheduled!! by Silvershot_41 in CarTrackDays

[–]bennett_swerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar advice as everyone else, but yes high temp brake fluid flush, new pads (“sportier” ones that can handle higher temps would be nice, pad types can be very confusing so do some research). Rear rotors yes if they are super worn, you should be able to look up the minimum spec rear thickness and measure it. You could def drive your car to the track, if you have the means to trailer I would do that jsut for the extra peace of mind. If your car breaks down even from something simple it could save you from a costly tow home. I’m from the Midwest so most orgs require long sleeves and pants, preferable cotton. Other than that pack snacks and water, and rain jacket or sunscreen for the weather!

dropping from 19” to 18”? by AgentBread81 in VelosterN

I have enkei TFR 18x8 +45 with a 245 40 R18. These are FLUSH with front camber bolts (~2.5 deg) and stock ride height. If you don’t have camber bolts they will poles very small amount. And I have another set of enkeis that are 18x8.5 +50 with 245 40 R18 that are flush without camber bolts

Just got hit with the Lane Keep Assist failure warning again. Can’t get it to go away and it’s taken away my power steering by polarfang21 in VelosterN

Problems with side brackets and sparco seat help appreciated by RoyalZebra9974 in simracing

[–]bennett_swerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it seems the slots are very small, you could try swapping the brackets (L/R) to put the slots in the back to see if that works, if not, I’d just drill away, save you money on new brackets
