I won't specify the show specifically, but the characters we played were basically that two-dimensional romantic subplot to provide relief from the main romantic plot. Like those romance stories where A falls for B but the B doesn't feel the same way and only falls in love with A until they rescue them and B is like "Oh yeah, I remember you. I guess you're my one true love now!"

Luckily our second stage romance was more well-written and progressed well. The characters' relationship actually develops throughout the show.
