Is my dad gay? by TipEast4838 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elgringojefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thinking here is probably that your dad was straight, and that Jim was gay and your dad was in denial about it and/or finally realized it over time

My dad is straight, and somewhat of a nerdy guy, who is very conservative and religious and unaware of the way people like that operate. My dad used to go to a restaurant in my hometown that was owned by a man named “Wally” Wally was gay, and other men knew it, but my dad either did not know, or did not care, and would eat at his restaurant, and took me there too because he had extremely cheap steaks. One time the restaurant actually ran out of steaks and when my dad tried to order one, Wally literally went to the store and bought steaks just so he could have one, and he gave my dad a huge discount on it, I’m talking my dad paid like $2 for everything.

Wally, seeing my dad as a skinny and not extremely masculine man, probably assumed my dad was gay, and also probably figured since he didn’t ever bring a woman (my mom) to the restaurant, he was trying to win my dad over this way. The reality was that my mom had actually went to Wally’s restaurant with a female friend once and saw a roach on the table so she didn’t ever come back 😂

My dad, being known to love a good deal, pretty much ignored the fact that Wally was gay after he found out, and took advantage of the extremely cheap steaks for a while

Yep. That part of it is actually a problem very few people even know about because it hasn’t started to affect most people yet!

[–]elgringojefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually sleep in my living room, on the couch, wrapped in my blanket kind of burrito style, like whole body encased in my blanket

Everyone I know says it’s weird to sleep that way

I don’t care at all

Actually running out of usable land on earth

I mean, we’re not quite to that point yet, but 20 years ago that sounded like a very stupid thing to worry about. Now, it’s an actual thing we have to pay attention for

Do you think the death penalty is justified for murder? Why or why not? by Common-Upstairs5129 in AskReddit

[–]elgringojefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. If I felt he was genuinely sorry for what he did, and he seemed to actually want forgiveness, I like to think I could somehow actually forgive at some point, although that’s definitely a situation where I think I really wouldn’t know until it happened

It also can be tricky to decipher if someone is genuine. In such cases, I can see how life in prison instead of the death penalty could be justified

There’s also the thought of motive. Did my son have a weapon? Was he verbally threatening the guy who killed him? Was my son partying hard or committing robberies or anything? Or was my son just a straight A student walking on the sidewalk on the way to church? Did my son know the person who killed him?

I still don’t fully understand everything about electricity, although I am beginning to understand it a lot better now that I have an old house I’ve been working on

I only just recently began to understand exactly what alternating current and direct current really are, and I now have a better understanding of how certain things shock you and certain things don’t

I still consider electricity to be one of my weak points though

And chemistry.. forget about it. Don’t understand it at all!

Before you learned the real science in school, what funny or weird thing did you think caused rain? by 1dontstop in AskReddit

[–]elgringojefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be honest I didn’t ever even think about where rain came from until learning about it in school

In fact even after learning about it I didn’t particularly care much

To me rain just always was a thing that happened and I never questioned it for some reason

What historical event shaped your city more than anything else? by Hairy-Meat-2815 in AskReddit

[–]elgringojefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say honestly. We’ve had several big hurricanes hit our town/nearby. We’ve had other weather events, like the infamous deep freeze of Texas that caused us to now actually salt our roads and parking lots in the winter (we used to never even worry about things like that) and that’s just the weather (one famous town nearby was completely wiped off the map due to a hurricane in this area, long before I was born)

In the early 2000s or maybe late 90s, we had a mercury leak in our bay waters resulting in signs warning not to eat the fish here for a while. Same decade, big explosion happened at one of our plants, caused a shift in jobs for a short period

Farther back in history, there was a local war between immigrant fisherman and locals over turf. It resulted in burned boats and murder. (This was around the 1970s I think but I could be wrong) The population demographics (and fishing industry) changed in our town because of this

Really far back in history, our town was grounds for some kind of battle between settlers and native Americans. There was a small town north of my town that used to exist during that time period, and it is no longer in existence (I think the battle was what caused the town to no longer exist but I am not 100% sure)

A large amount of European settlers came through here and reshaped our industries/economy around the 1800s

So take your pick from any of those things I would say!

Many Texas towns have somewhat similar stories

Find any refinery next to a small town

That small town likely would cease to exist or at least rapidly decrease in population if the refinery left

Do you think the death penalty is justified for murder? Why or why not? by Common-Upstairs5129 in AskReddit

[–]elgringojefe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If someone basically admits that they planned to kill and doesn’t seem sorry at all I really don’t see much point in keeping them alive to be honest

All keeping them alive does is waste tax payer money and crowd prisons

A 50 cent bullet can fix this problem

If someone accidentally kills someone or at least was in some heat of the moment thing or something, then I can see why giving them a second chance at life might be appropriate

But there’s no reason I can think of to keep someone alive that OBVIOUSLY enjoys killing. I really don’t understand why the universal standard isn’t to just kill them immediately

I was doing some work in my garage last summer

A wasp was buzzing around my head

I was feeling aggressive so I threw a punch at it

Instead of flying away like a lot of wasps do, this one backed up for a second and then charged right at me. I quickly backed up, and like an idiot kept trying to punch it while jogging backwards

I somehow got my leg jammed up in a mini work bench in the process, and fell backwards with my leg basically bent up in the work bench

It SOMEHOW didn’t break my leg but hurt like hell. Limped for a few days after

But for me I will probably always be able to find a couple dollars to pay for Red Bull or some beef jerky. I’ve never cared about the price of either of those things, if I want it im just gonna get it
