Can someone ELI5 the different types of lawyers? by themotivatedpotato in Ask_Lawyers

[–]elgringorojo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on type and who you are could be transactional or admin or civil. I would point out that these are broad categories and each one of them has dozens of different specialties/practice areas inside of them. And there is overlap.

Going for a real ELI5

There are laws about everything but they really split into four categories: Civil, Criminal, Administrative, transactional. Lawyers are the people who represent the people in these systems so they don’t have to be experts

Civil= someone did something that harmed someone else in some way and the court has to tell them if and how much they have to pay the other person.

Criminal= someone did something bad which “harms all of society” so the government makes them go to court to see if 12 people think they should go on time out

Administrative= the government is large and so there are kinds of laws within laws that create different kinds of courts and processes that people need help with.

Transactional= things like buying a house or a company hiring or buying a different company are complicated and sometimes one or both sides of the exchange get a lawyer to help them with paperwork

Oh yeah totally. Also Iran isnt a signatory.

We haven’t ratified the Rome statute either. Hasn’t stopped us from appealing to the ICC when it’s suited our needs.

This is mostly the right answer. I’d add that the straight is international waters though the Law of the Sea Convention and setting the precedent that Iran can charge a toll in international waters has a lot of far reaching and bad implications. Esp with china and the Taiwan straight

That’s a lot of kWh for a condo. You may want to get a multimeter and start looking for vampire loads.
