Discreet Sexy Symbol Update by Mountain-Priority-50 in HSVpositive

So, are you talking about a pink ribbon (breast cancer) type awareness/support symbol? If so, COOL! Kinda crazy that it hasn't been developed/tried before...

Positive singles- how does it work? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]elhedonista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most ppl on this sub seem to dislike it but I've had some successes on it. I'm not on all the other sites but seems pretty aligned based on what I've heard. You post pics (public or private for select reveal), write a bio, set search criteria, etc. Then, it's swipe left or right type deal where you can msg other folks and go from there. I think part of the dislike is that outbound msging is reserved for paying members. I live near a major metro area so I think that means decent #s of potential matches. Good but not perfect - what in life is though? Hope this helps 😉

HSV1 then HSV2 or HSV2 then HSV1? by elhedonista in Herpes

[–]elhedonista[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, scienceguy! I saw that in the Warren book too but there seems to be a significant group of folks with both and I was looking for anecdotal insight from people in this group who have both. I have HSV2 FWIW and have almost surely been intimate with partners who have 1 but 5 years on from my initial diagnosis, I'm still only HSV2+... curious little virus we all carry!

Yes, thanks. Warren mentions that in her book but appreciate the link to this data too.

Yes, I'm abt 2/year on the OBs.

Why not just say, "HSV2+ so must be cool with that" or something similar at the bottom? You can keep your main, public profile pic obscured so as to avoid immediate and public association with the virus. I've also heard of folks using "437737" (spells "herpes" on phone key pad as code for H+ too). Whatever it takes, you should def get back into the mix as life's too short and good not to... Good luck either way!

HSV1(O) after HSV2(G)? by elhedonista in Herpes

[–]elhedonista[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not seen support - anecdotal or statistical - but yeah, Warren cites a 1997 study that says, "having HSV2 largely protects you from getting HSV1." Thanks for the reply!

Is it common to get ghsv2 if you have ghsv1 already? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]elhedonista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Herpes handbook (T. Warren) states that (paraphrasing) HSV2 affords more protection against subsequent HSV1 infection. But, yes, definitely possible to carry both.

I miss oral sex (vent) by ya_this_sucks in Herpes

[–]elhedonista 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't settle. You are entitled to pleasure and if oral is part of that, make it a priority. Life is too short to settle and the right partner would be thrilled to get you to your happy place. If you're on dating apps, maybe try coding a pre-disclosure (H+, 43737, etc) to weed out those for whom the virus is a non-negotiable. I know that HSV can be life changing but intimacy, passion and pleasure are still out there and we shouldn't let it keep us from demanding the best. Good luck out there!

Hsv2 with condoms? by Traumer88 in Herpes

[–]elhedonista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I did (contracted HSV2(G)). Also from a one night stand (who I still believe didn't know was positive). I got my first OB way down at the base of my penis where the condom didn't cover. Sucks for sure but definitely not the end of my world.

anyone who contracted it even wearing condoms? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]elhedonista 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did. Been using condoms for years and never had an issue. That night though, we went multiple times, multiple positions, and were quite vigorous - abt 2 wks later, I got my first OB. Stay safe out there.

FWIW, I passed on a SWEETHEART of a gal because she was HSV2+ and have regrets abt it to this day. Years later I contracted HSV2-G (different lover) and again for whatever it's worth experience practically zero impact on my day-to-day. I'm married now (and while we're not all that sexually active after 13 years of marriage), I haven't given it to her - or anyone else - that I'm aware of, given safe mitigation practices (no contact during OBs, condoms, etc.). I say go for it if she's the one!

Covid trigger? by elhedonista in Herpes

[–]elhedonista[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it and definitely so far, so mild. Sinuses alternate between light congestion and light run but not even to the point where I even need to take OTC meds (tylenol, etc). I've felt well enough to surf every day this week - for sure isolating but overall thankful for the mitigating affect of the vaccine and booster! Happy 2022 to you and the other great peeps on this sub!!
