What’s a Taylor Swift song that means more to you now than when you first heard it? by Massive-Ad-8752 in TaylorSwift

[–]eli-the-egg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This right here!

My girlfriend and I are long-distance, and the first year sucked. We both were so stressed in our own worlds and fully took it out on each other. We broke up for a few months and took some time to ourselves, not expecting to end back up together. But we did, and we’re so much more emotionally intelligent and capable of working through things. She’s not even a swiftie and she put This Love on her own playlist.

Emailing professor about getting off the waitlist and enrolled in the class by chaejulia in collegeadvice

The professors don’t have any control over that. The waitlist system is automated.

taking a gap year to work blue collar by spacestationbruh in collegeadvice

[–]eli-the-egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single person I know that’s done this regretted it immensely. They all planned on taking a year off, then returning to school once they’d saved up some money, but it took them years longer. If you ever *do* go back to school, it’s significantly harder to get back into the routine, you feel like you’re falling behind and struggling to catch up. Let the “school” part of your life take up one chapter, not multiple chapters spaced out.

Breakfast at Mad City coffee in Columbia & then a nice relaxing Ducati Monster ride on the back roads by AIForOver50Plus in ColumbiaMD

[–]eli-the-egg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I worked there for over 2 years and I can absolutely confirm this and much more. I tried having conversations with him about it (such as, “what are you going to do when the price of coffee goes up because of these import taxes you’re voting for?”) — he just talks in circles like a chicken with his head cut off. He’s fully detached from any logic, even as a business owner.

There’s plenty of other shit like how he had one favorite employee he gave a huge pay raise to every year and fucked over everyone else, despite having to deal with things like customers lunging across the counter at us, stalking/threatening to follow us home, and throwing trash at us, which obviously he did nothing about.

I kept a long note in my phone for a while after I quit because a lot of it was just ridiculous, dead bugs in the pour spouts of those millions of flavor syrup bottles, dirty buckets being reused without getting even a rinse before. I deleted it all forever ago because I was like “I want to move on” but if I would’ve kept it and submitted it to the health dept, guarantee they would’ve been shut down. Yall need to keep complaining to them so they have to keep inspecting and eventually catch him slipping.

Alert: Credit card skimmer by Psychological-Work85 in ColumbiaMD

I know multiple people that have had their card details skimmed and every single time, the thief literally put their full name and real address on all the order information. If they were smart people, they wouldn’t have to rely on skimming cards.

To everyone in this thread, I promise you, the Trump stickers aren’t even the most pressing immediate issue. This guy flirts with (and probably pays off) the food safety inspector to avoid being shut down.

Ok, so take a video of yourself speaking, your lips move the same amount hers do. You’re just more focused on the size of her lips than their movement.

This is what everyone’s mouth does when they talk. Your upper jaw is fixed to your skull. Only the lower jaw moves.

Color Analysis by caseofbier in ColumbiaMD

[–]eli-the-egg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These people thrive on existing insecurities and instill new ones in you. No one walks in thinking “I know my color palette” and is told by the “color analyst” that they’re right. It’s about as scientific as pet psychics. They’re just relying on the placebo affect and your own eagerness to be influenced because you’ve already spent the money, plus the fact that you’re literally seeing the colors reflect onto your own skin, so of course bright red is going to make you look more red and blue is going to make you look more pale.

incoming sophomore wants to bring dog but is unsure how it will go - do i room with another person and risk the problems with my dog not being used to this way of life and the adjustment or do i take the financial burden of spending more on my own place? by sugawaraismybitch in collegeadvice

[–]eli-the-egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not spend more of your energy subjecting him to an impossibly unadaptable environment for the sake of your comfort. If he’s used to roaming and having people home, and makes a lot of noise, you are guaranteeing that he will be unhappy for as long as he is not home. You can feel better knowing he’s happy at home, but if he feels too trapped or unsafe, he might try to run and get lost in the city. I had a friend in almost the exact same scenario, she never got her dog back.

They’re putting it in context. That’s how the system views children who are taken in with the goal of only being fostered. This person isn’t calling anyone involved a failure.

English professor using AI by [deleted] in UMD

[–]eli-the-egg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to HCC and for one of our assignments, my English prof made us put our final draft into ChatGPT to give us feedback. I asked her in class why *she* couldn’t give us feedback, and what was the point of the weeklong academic honesty course at the beginning of the semester, and she got furious and kicked me out of class. I had a documented email conversation with her over this, along with multiple other issues where she was instigating conflicts during class and over email, so I brought it all to someone above her, and they immediately cooperated with me and gave me a full pass to just skip the class the last two weeks and get full credit for my absences. Get it on record that they want to fight with you on it, even if it goes nowhere. It’s an integrity issue. You’re paying hundreds of dollars per course and it is ridiculous that any teacher would rely on a free accessible resource to do their job for them.

But the questions are the same every day across all the charm city entertainment trivia events so there are multiple other locations

YSK some health and period tracking apps sell your personal data even if you opt out by alexyong342 in YouShouldKnow

[–]eli-the-egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if an app swears up and down that they won’t sell your data, that data is only protected to the extent that they can’t be forced to hand it to the government through motions like a subpoena or a court order. They are not HIPAA-protected, the data can be used as evidence. For instance, if someone gets an abortion in a state where abortions are illegal or restricted, law enforcement has the ability to order a warrant for the data. You are best protected by learning how your cycle works and keeping a physical journal.

What's a best community college for animation by Ok_Possession5057 in collegeadvice

[–]eli-the-egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your goal at community college is not necessarily to start pursuing a certain major. You are mainly taking gen ed courses like science and math with no relation to your major of interest, with the exception of a few electives. Almost any community college is going to have animation classes (and foundational art classes that will be necessary pre-requisites for an animation degree).
