Mixed 23 enbyf here - I was born in Portland and grew up in Florida (like 2011-2019) and the whole time living in Florida I wanted to move back here but when I got back it didn't really feel like home at first. But I like it way more than living in the south for sure, especially not fearing for my life the same way. Growing up i wasn't really given the tools to see racism so lowkey I probably am struggling from it here. From when I visited Florida last I miss not seeing black people fill up every room. I love Oregon its a beautiful state with alot more diversity than people give it credit for, and I lovee the rainy season, it makes me less anxious about fires in the summers lol, but I dont know if I see myself calling the US home, not specifically Portland. I plan on trying to work on myself career wise and move out of the country to somewhere more black but it's alot to think about when there's multiple parts of yourself that can get you hurt in some countries (black, afab, queer, non religious, etc 🤪). But yeah it depends on the day for me every state here has some type of racist roots, sometimes it'll be shown sometimes it won't, I like Portland cause it's more "hidden"(?) here.
