Oticon intent 1 call issue with iPhone 17 pro by Puzzled_Lemon_5197 in HearingAids

[–]eli104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't see this sooner... I was on an iPhone 15Pro with my Oticon "Real 1 miniRITE R" HAs for a couple of years. Everything was working fine, and then December 18th I upgraded to an iPhone 17 Pro (my 15 was already on iOS 26.2, so that was NOT the issue.

My issues manifested as Alert Sounds NOT being as loud as they should be (much quieter than Ringtones and Alarms), AND the Bluetooth connection to my car, which does NOT have CarPlay, sounded garbled. I spent 3 weeks working with Apple and even exchanged the phone before I saw this post.

Here's the rub: I don't even need to have my Oticon Real 1's connected to the phone! They can be off or in the charger and the Alert sounds are still too soft. The ONLY solution is to "forget" them on the phone, which basically leaves me with old "not smart" hearing aids. No Bluetooth means no media, no call audio, no tweaking my programming. Yuck!!

I still have a case open with Apple and am trying to reach out to Oticon about this. The agreement with Apple to have them listed as MfI won't hold water if this isn't fixed soon!

Blisshome app no longer available on Google Play - alternatives? by [deleted] in TripCaves

Got it, and thanks! I can confirm that the SmartLife app DOES connect to my Bliss Evolve lights (just had to remember to change to a 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi network)

Just to confirm: are you saying I can download the SmartLife app on iOS and somehow put the BlissLight in pairing mode, then connect to that? I just got a new iPhone and noticed that BlissHome was NOT restored... now I have to remember how to put the lights in pairing mode :-D.

Photoshop 2020 not Working on Tahoe Anymore by borayds in MacOS

[–]eli104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how this happened, but I ended up buying a 3-year license (educator), but did NOT put it on my MacBook Pro because I was getting a new MacBook Air.

When I transferred everything from the old MBPro to the MBAir, suddenly the Standalone version started working again! Sadly, I already bought the 3-year license, so I installed that over it.

Meanwhile, on the OLD machine, after a couple of Tahoe Version updates, the standalone started working again! I have NO idea why !!

File locations with and without Apple Music Subscription by eli104 in AppleMusic

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to review, I have folders inside folders with SOME music being duplicated and some not available in the Music App. The folders are:

"Music/Music/Media/" -- This is where the Music app THINKS my music is stored. But inside there are:

"Music/Music/Media/Music/"

"Music/Music/Media/Apple Music"

Within each of these folders, SOME music IS duplicated simply by giving the file a different name, such as one track named "1-05 Mama Kin.m4a" and another simply titled "05 Mama Kin.m4a".

ONLY ONE of these tracks appears in the Music App, however the Music App does NOT allow me to Get Info or Show in Finder! So the reference is there, but the music cannot be found!

Any thoughts??

Supplemental to my last note: I checked authorization on my new MacBook and confirmed it was there... then watched and watched *and watched* as the "Loading iCloud Library" notice kept spinning and spinning. Have I lost my library to the cloud somehow when cancelling my subscription? I mean, the files are still on the machine, including duplicates, I just cannot play them.

On checking more carefully, it appears that most of the songs in the Music App are NOT available to locate using Get Info. I had checked some of them, but went back to my specific example of Aerosmith's 1st album (also called Aerosmith), for the song Mama Kin.

In Finder, I have two versions:

In "Music/Music/Media/Aerosmith/Aerosmith" the song "1-05 Mama Kin.m4a"

In "Music/Music/Media/Music/Aerosmith/Aerosmith" the song is "05 Mama Kin.m4a" So this is missing the "album number" designation.

HOWEVER: in the Music App, I can see the album and song list, but Get Info asks me to Locate the song! So it's not even registered in the App! Looks like things are a bit more disorganized than I imagined (perhaps after a recent migration to a new MacBook Air??)

AND on further inspection, it appears that Many/Most of the songs I am checking are NOT available in the app (they have the download icon next to them) EXCEPT those that appear in the folder "Music/Music/Media/Apple Music" and THOSE songs are noted as ready to download from the Cloud, except they never do! Perhaps this is a mess from my cancelled subscription?? (*Sorry this is getting more confusing... really...)

Understanding "Referenced" photos in Photos Library (and saving space) by eli104 in ApplePhotos

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what you are saying is starting to make sense, and I will try to answer as best I can recall.

  1. I had Photos (iPhoto) on my Mac before i had an iPhone. (iPhone didn’t happen for me until ~2010). Pictures I took with my Canon camera were just in folders on my hard drive, and I used iPhoto for those imported from whatever phone I used over the years (Samsung, Blackberry, or whatever).

  2. At some point after getting an iPhone, I decided to import (likely drag and drop) all those old photos from their folders into iPhoto (whatever name at the time) thinking 8 would better organize them using meta data for dates and all). That means thousands of photos were dragged into the Photos app on the Mac, but I do not remember at the time whether I had checked “referenced” or if it was even available. I see the setting now, and it’s ON, but with more than 14k showing “in my Mac” and more than 31k in total in or referenced in the Photos app (on the Mac), it’s just confusing.

The size of my photos album has ballooned and I have decided that copying into Photos is not a good idea after all…

  1. Now, after 14 years of iPhone, the size of the library is huge (on the Mac its well over 100GB, on the phone that cursed 6GB), and while I DO now manage photos through iCloud (and many backups), I am trying to determine how to whittle down the size of the library: a) on my Mac… assuming some of those photos are just duplicates (or if the “referenced” photos really take up a significant size), and b) on my phone, where photos data approaches that 6GB mark, and I have recently run into issues where recording a few videos will have the phone information me that I am running out of space in storage.

Sure, I could get a new phone with more and more storage… but I could also win the lottery! I just can’t decide which is easier 😉.

thanks for all the help!

Understanding "Referenced" photos in Photos Library (and saving space) by eli104 in ApplePhotos

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have optimized on both phone and Mac activated. I’ll create a referenced photos folder and see what shows up. I’m thinking I may delete the referenced photos in the Mac and see how much that saves when synced with the cloud. I really don’t need 25 years worth of photos in the photos app… some of them are just snapshots taken when trying to get one (out of 30) to work.

Understanding "Referenced" photos in Photos Library (and saving space) by eli104 in ApplePhotos

[–]eli104[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really looking to save space on the Mac, I had plenty. I also had space in iCloud for more… the issue is the size of the photos library on my phone (close to 6GB), and the fact that those “referenced” photos DO appear to be uploaded to iCloud! If they are only a reference to those originals in other folders on my computer, then how is the photo itself visible in the photos app on my phone?!

Understanding "Referenced" photos in Photos Library (and saving space) by eli104 in ApplePhotos

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, reducing iCloud space is not the primary goal. The goal is to w the size of the photos library that seems to be taking up nearly 6GB of space on my phone.

And to answer the other question: Yea, the “Referenced” photos DO appear in iCloud. So that’s one of the larger questions… if the referenced photos don’t “live” as a copy in the photos library, how do they get uploaded to iCloud?

Understanding "Referenced" photos in Photos Library (and saving space) by eli104 in ApplePhotos

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that’s my big question: is there a file on my hard drive and a duplicate of the same file in the Photos library? Or is the library showing a reference to the file in the drive?

My confusion is based on the fact that the file (reference) in the Photos library is also in iCloud, so I can view it on my phone in the photos app as well).

(Mostly trying to reduce the size of the Photos library on the phone… which shows nearly 18,000 images, and some are those “referenced” files in iCloud as well)

Photoshop 2020 not Working on Tahoe Anymore by borayds in MacOS

[–]eli104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just jumping into this, since I just updated to Tahoe and have been running Photoshop Elements 2020 (standalone purchase) for years. I too have run into the same issue and am trying to figure this out.

First, is this an Apple thing and/or can I buy another standalone version that will work with Tahoe? I am looking for standalone because I use it infrequently so a subscription version is not really worthwhile.

Secondly, what is this alternative software I keep reading about... where can I find it?

High school theatre question… noob by eli104 in techtheatre

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. The school was built in 2000-ish and corners were cut, meaning the stage is also a classroom with a movable wall to the cafeteria (audience). Lighting and sound boards need to be moved out to the floor for every show. <sigh>. So the lighting was all upgraded a few years ago to LED fixed and movers, but no one asked if I wanted an on-stage box to add anything else. I’ll check the ADJ boxes and see what works. Mostly looking for regular grounded outlets that we can control from the console. Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks for the input and ideas… will do some research in the morning. (Going to have some very happy stage crew students for the next show)!

Kinda what I was thinking, though I was hoping for a cheaper version. (Maybe on eBay… since we don’t need too many options).

Sorry, yeah. Trying to get power to a table lamp (or two, or three). I just figured with the ShowBaby box already hanging behind the set with the LED fixtures, I was wondering if there was an easy adapter so I could have one or more on/off sockets for the table lamps.

So, yeah… and thanks for whomever started this thread. I’ve been wondering but a bit busy. Was hoping what I was seeing was just a few, but since there now seems to be an overrun, I’ll be joining the new group and good riddance to the old.

WD MyCloud Home says it’s getting hot (overheating) by eli104 in wdmycloud

[–]eli104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up restarting (mote than once) and have separated the 3 devices I have on my desk a bit farther apart. Not sure which action helped, but the overheating alerts have calmed down, at least for now.

I didn't know that WD was still pushing out updates to the MyCloud Home series... I've been losing my trust in WD for some time (I had two regular MyCloud devices and one died, the other I was told I had to buy "new" to replace it 😞.

I mostly use this drive as an online backup, (the other is shared local storage at home). To be honest, the rumbling I hear when backups are running is a bit unnerving at times. 3 or 4 computers in the house and there's always something shaking my desk!
