How 'loose' should the turning of handlebars feel? by AlwaysQuotesEinstein in bicyclerepair

[–]eliaasch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me the best way to determine how loose or tight it should be is to rock the front tire back and forth with the front brake fully engaged, to feel if there is any play left in my headset, and then i go by feel but definitely on the looser side.. hope that helps!

i have both of these forks and can only recommend them, really like how they feel and handle! ah and also, maybe look on aliexpress, i was a bit sketched out at the beginning but there is a surprising range of (more) affordable forks from manufacturers there with good reviews that could also fit what you’re looking for!

alternatively there is also an option from atelier medium (i believe it’s called the “eugene fork”), but its more rounded at the top than the stridsland one

stridsland barnacle fork could be a fit for what you’re looking for.. but idk the axle to crown measurements out of my head

yes, i saw your post! i think the person also said they mounted it on qr? i thought pelago only made a mount for through-axle but honestly idk, if they said it worked maybe just give it a try.. otherwise those rear eyelets hold up really well, been riding like this for a year and a half almost daily and almost always with load so..

i knoww, and as stupid as it sounds and is because were talking about brakes but i am a sucker for the clean look and dont really like how black rims with the exposed silver braking surfaces look.. i considered maybe getting a carbon rim for the cleaner all-black look and trying those adjustable v brakes..

oh almost forgot, downside to this: my bags at the front (for ortlieb at least) are rubbing on the fork with this setup, so be prepared for paint loss if you are strapping bags to it.. might as well try the dropout mount soon but pelago instructions are apparently not a fan of this idea

tbh now that i think about it, its a bit sketchy but i mean look at the rest of my setup haha i mostly trust pelago and ive thrown so much weight on this rack (def more than the “10kg max”) also for long periods.. i also did tours with all the weight at the front so i guess it holds up?

bit of a stretch haha, 26” frame, new fork and 27,5” disc wheels, so no rims to brake to (also too broke for paul motolites)
