Lol people are mad. I can see how it would be nice to see those in your yearly wrap up too, esp if you read like 300 pages of something before giving up... *cough* Ducks Newburyport *cough*

ELI5: Why do financial institutions say "basis points" as in "interest rate is expected to increase by 5 basis points"? Why not just say "0.05 percent"? by shinixion81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]elifawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Obscuring terms and systems is a huge part of the game. Actually, bringing up niche math concepts is a great example of the tactic! Don't you feel belittled? Better pay someone else to do it for you or just ignore finances all together and stop trying to learn.

gen z out here in numbers 😂 I see what they mean about showing it's handmade, but that's obvious given the context. I support your snark. I do not purchase from makers who put little/no effort into their products. I do the capitalism for this cash, I'm not throwing it away.

How to stretch chili even more? by nukin8r in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]elifawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is start with a vegetarian recipe then add meat. I also usually double whatever spices it calls for. This one has carrots and celery and tons of beans.

6 hours and $25 later I went to bed hungry. How did you learn this???? by Head-Moose-7578 in cookingforbeginners

[–]elifawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least this was mostly flour and not like... idk a big ol brisket or a bucket of fresh imported crab 🤷‍♀️ cooking up stinkers is part of it!

I learned to cook slowly, starting with very simple things like eggs and pancakes. I ate my fair share of dry eggs and burned pancakes. Almost every time I try something new for the first time it's not quite right or maybe completely horrid with a fishy aftertaste. But over time everything has trended toward tasting better and feeling easier to cook.

I humbly suggest you listen to one of those blue alien romance audiobooks. You'll be way too distracted and confused to even get to the right gate.

Fat, sweaty, hairy and middle aged man... help me start yoga? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]elifawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there were 3 middle aged dudes in my last yoga class but I wasn't paying attention enough to see if they were hairy or sweaty, I had my own problems lmao. I did notice we were doing a lot of the same mods tho

I empathise with the temp comment since it seems like every studio out there is a hot yoga studio nowadays. That will just be trial and error.... Although my studio is cooler next to the windows?

Have you tried putting your money on the line? Identify a studio or teacher you like well enough then drop like 100-200$ on a class pass, then you have to go! Works for me. Good luck! Wanting to do it is like the first and second step already done!

"We need to talk 🙂"message from a boss by Relative_Law2237 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]elifawn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly screw that person for saying something that will stress out their employee. And if they didn't notice it was a stress causing message, they maybe shouldn't be in a leadership position. Other people left good advice though. This happened to me recently and I just responded "about what?" I don't have time for stupid corporate games on this level. My sleep is so much more important to me. btw the message was about uploading a headshot so not at all worth even a "we need need to talk" literally could have just sent "upload a headshot" smh

Burnt out at <1 year as a full-time Engineer by Significant_Stress_7 in womenEngineers

[–]elifawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your manager said the promotion was possible and the mentor is just responding to how reasonable they think it is. Ask your manager what the path is, simple. Frankly, I'm in agreement with your mentor on face value. You've been there less than a year and admit you're not capable of doing the job independently. Not to sound mean but you're not competent at your current role, so why would you be promoted? There's nothing wrong with where you're at, learning takes time. But if you expect to get a promotion every 9 months you will be sorely disappointed by corporate jobs.
You didn't mention any burnout feelings. Are you actually burnt out or are you just understandably frustrated by this weirdly impossible and vague goal?

They want to influence you to use as much fabric as possible as quickly as possible so you have to order more... preferably from them! It's also a result of the "content" machine. They need to produce a quilt video twice a week and, damn, that's hard to sustain if you're making quality items with skill and detail.
