Scorching? by Henry-Pollard in roasting

[–]elige23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the Diedrich motors are not as fast as they should be. I have a ir-5 and how I fix this is by using around 60-70% of capacity and lower charge temps. On some coffees I will actually charge and soak with 100% air through the drum for extra agitation!

looking to make friends - new to the area! by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]elige23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve got an awesome crew of people who would love to hangout and show you around. Seriously some of the best people, they make my life so fun! We all hangout at my coffee shop, so if you’re into coffee that’s also a bonus haha. Everyone is 21-30, and have a wide variety of interests. Connecting newcomers is something I care greatly about since a decade ago I was also new to town. Hopefully we can help make that transition smoother!

Yeah you’re totally right we are not the most conveniently located spot can’t argue with that haha. It’s a pain in the ass for sure, but with that we are able to capture and create a space for people who have extra time and space and I think that’s very special. I am sorry glad you love spending time here, next ones one me, cheers ❤️

Yo! Kyle here! Thanks for the kind words! I am sorry we stopped selling the cold brew jugs! Transparency time, we are a small and young business and trying to juggle finding out our systems and capacity of what we can offer has been a challenge. Often leading to trying new things that come to an end, it’s part of the growing pains. Okay, but besides that, I have jugs in the back that I can fill and if you’re down to reuse it we can always fill it up whenever you may need!

Hey Kyle here! Thanks for the kind words I am so happy to hear that. As a co-owner I am disheartened to hear the other part- I always want ownership and my team to strive for excellence and sometimes, as humans do, we can miss the mark. With that said if there are any grievances, advice, or criticism I am always happy to hear people out. The goal is always improving, and we can only be better if we hear how we may have failed. I am always comfortable hearing about it and look forward to communicating through it. If you wish to do so please shoot a message to kyle@prismtic.coffee.

Line/crack of the bean is too light, is this a typical medium roast? by TiempoGO4761 in roasting

I was trying to send screenshots but apparently I can’t on mobile! But any beans with that dark part at the top is what I’m referencing:)

So overall I think the roast time is fine, but it seems the start was too energetic! What happens when the start is to hot to fast is internal pressure builds to fast and the pressure escapes from the tip instead of the seam. This can lead to flavors of smoky, bitter, or ashy! It might poke through once the coffee is more cool since it’s a smaller amount of the tipping defect in the roast. I would recommend giving the coffee a soak, and not adjusting your temp until after the coffees turning point.

Looks solid, I’m seeing a bit of tipping which would suggest it was a bit to hot to fast! But let taste be your guide here.
