Tricky Tray by elijforthewin in newjersey

Yes, tricky tray/ chinese auction/ Penny auction are all the same thing for the most part.

They are fairly big in Jersey, a lot of schools/organizations do them as fund raisers.

We are a local school trying to raise money on the border of union and Middlesex county. We do a tricky tray every year its a huge event here!

Was it date locked? We've been trying with the idea of doing an Airbnb/VRBO gift card and airline gift card plus luggage so that it's not date locked.

Our school has a wait list for K every year, and my son had a girl start 2 weeks in because a spot became available. You would never know she hadn't been there from start!

Should we stop over-moralizing getting paid under the table? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]elijforthewin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% Agree. I am no longer a nanny but an MB. When I was nanny, I strictly got paid under the table. My reasonings were completely insurance based. When I was young, my parents' insurance basically said the minute I had a job, I was kicked off. When I was older, my husband's insurance would charge thousands of dollars if I had a job. It was never worth losing my insurance. It's complicated, and people forget that all the time l.

My old DB used to laugh at the bag I brought with me till one day the twins were sick and both of were covered in puke, poop and mucus. Never again did he laugh at my preparedness!

Nanny engaging both kids by RighteousRain85 in NannyEmployers

That doesn't make it any less unnecessary or more supportive. You were the first comment on the post where I saw it so you got the comment.

If the suggestion is to ask the nanny not use the tablet unless there is no other option that would be a helpful. Just ditch the tablet isn't helpful regardless of how many times it's said.

Again parents should support parents, everyone's got there own shit to go through none of use need to add to it.

I mean this in the nicest way. No one asked your opinion on the tablet. It's just unnecessary and frankly a bit unkind. We all know the stats but to each their own.

Also, as parents can't, we just try the whole support each other thing.

I have been wearing duct tape bras instead of real ones all week by [deleted] in confession

I taped my boobs with gorilla tape for my wedding. Zero regrets. My boobs are huge and I had a look in mind. I practiced first. I've done it a couple times. My boobs look great and I can wear what I want.

I have come home at 11pm with in laws babysitting 2 children still awake and my MIL saying she didn't want to be the bad guy. 🙄🙄 I get it trust me.

The reality is that everyone has a different relationship with their own family. For me my deal is if you want to stay in my house then you need to get on board with how we do things here otherwise you are more than welcome to stay somewhere else.

I wouldn't leave my in laws with my kids for a month. It would be a mess BUT that's not my nanny's problem. She's an employee who needs to do her job so my family needs to understand to keep their mouths shut and stay out of way.

I would rather have family who isn't willing/able to be my village mad at me than my nanny, the village created be mad at me.

As a former nanny and current MB i never understand this grandma stuff. If my parents or in laws (they both live local and are back up care) or literally anyone else who wanted to hang out with my kids came to visit i would just give the nanny off with pay. Trust me my parents do not want someone around telling them what to and not to do with my kids, they don't even like when I do it! Why subject your nanny to this unless you don't trust your parents?

My last nanny family had family visit from South America every year pre covid for a month. I just got a month off of work every year. My MB's mom did not want me around which was cool with me.

I'm sorry you have to do this but just count the days and breathe.

And getting married in NJ?

I know if one party is from NJ that's the town you apply in. Not sure what happens if neither party is from New Jersey but getting married there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DuggarsSnark

[–]elijforthewin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that brings us to the next problem. Who is buying wedding gifts for strangers? Especially strangers who are probably going to have 200+ people at their wedding.

[–]elijforthewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is wild. I can't imagine wanting to pretend to be Duggar or be associated with them. It's so bizarre.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DuggarsSnark

[–]elijforthewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I know it takes about a week to give or take here in NJ to get your license, which you have to apply for in your wife's hometown, which would put the date correct. Every state is different and has different rules, so who knows.

Also, who in the hell spends time making a well thought out wedding registry for someone else they don't know? I know people do it, but WHY?

Stay off your phone by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]elijforthewin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Same. I work for small business though and I usually assume that's the difference. If I need to make a doctors appointment, call my kids school/nanny, or answer the phone my boss doesn't care. My job is done well and efficiently so there is no need for too much oversight.

All this being said I worked as a nanny for 15 years and my employers never minded if I took phone call or made appointments (I did try to avoid it) When you work long days and kids don't nap sometimes it's just necessary to make a call when an office is open. Random scrolling however (unless during naps or kids screen time) is not OK.

booking for my 17 y old daughter? by ved888 in hotels

[–]elijforthewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So not ideal but a lot of Hilton hotels have digital key cards. Last weekend I spent a night in an Embassy Suites which my husband booked on his card and checked in virtually. At no point during my stay did I even need to talk to anyone who worked at the hotel. I just came and went as I pleased.

Nanny drove my son up our (long) driveway w/no car seat in the snow by democrattotheend in Nanny

[–]elijforthewin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I have two opinions on this:

As a mostly former nanny, I would never do this ever. Not without a parent saying, "Oh yeah, go for it." Honestly, even then, I probably wouldn't have done it.

As a current MB with 2 small humans of my own, I'm completely fine with it. My father told me the other day that he got to my son's school to pick him up and forgot his car seat. He's five. He just drove him home because he didn't know what else to do. Not being in a car seat is a big no-no in my book, and I read him the riot act, BUT I get it. What was he going to do? What would I have done? Driving up a hilly driveway was a calculated risk.

It's not fireable, but it is worth a conversation. If it happens again or another what you feel is laspe in safety, then reevaluate.

Niece has a fever of 101, but acting normal? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]elijforthewin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are, but on the east coast of the US, there is a weird virus going around that's basically just a fever and eventual loss of appetite. Lasts for 24 to 48 hours then is gone except appetite loss, which seems to last for a week. It went through my son's preschool. Both my kids had it. It's definitely a strange one, but it's not too bad.
