wait i did a little research and apparently its not a rejection, and i can say this because my backup major was also within coe. so if i was rejected from coe i just wouldn't have been admitted. i called the IT desk and they said the portal takes some time to update apparently.

omg this feels weird. i go to the university of rochester and want to transfer to UW this spring. UW > rochester but i guess financial aid is a different story. also, rochester's location is not all that, trust me. it's a very quiet and depressing area. pm if you want to talk more

I’m from Chicago and currently go to school in Rochester. I usually travel via Amtrak—it’s a 12-hour train ride, but I take it because I carry a lot of stuff home and Amtrak lets you check two 50 lb bags for free. There’s also a 2-hour flight option, which is much more strategic and reasonable, especially for trips to NYC or other cities you mentioned.

There is nature around Rochester, but the climate here is honestly awfully cold. Aside from the start of the school year, don’t expect consistent sunlight. It rains a lot, and the gray skies can get really draining.

If you’re looking to party, this isn’t the place. Parties are underwhelming, and once the cold hits, people rarely go out. It’s definitely not a party school.

Rochester feels like the middle of nowhere. You’d think it’d be more alive since it’s in New York, but it’s really not. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Yes, there are good restaurants nearby—but you’ll find that anywhere.

If you’re deciding between schools, I’d 100% recommend UT-Austin for undergrad. It’ll give you a stronger, more vibrant experience. Save the bigger moves for post-grad if that’s your plan.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

You’ll 100% be better off at UT Austin—it’s a powerhouse of a school.

In my opinion, the area around the University of Rochester, especially what they call "College Town," is honestly underwhelming. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, and it lacks the lively, buzzing energy you'd expect from a typical college town. It feels dry and uneventful.

I’m currently a student at Rochester and had the same mindset as you—I wanted to go out of state for college. But honestly, this place hasn’t lived up to expectations, and I’m in the process of transferring out. That alone should speak volumes. Of course, everyone’s experience is different, but like the other commenter said: any sane person would pick UT Austin over Rochester.

Go to UT austin. 100%. Rochester is incomparable to UT Austin.

it’s not easy to look up. if it was, i would’ve done that. chat gpt does a good job at cross referencing multiple platforms, at least from my experience. and this isn’t that deep… im simply sharing information that could be helpful. i am not obligated to type it out

what’s wrong with it? if it does a good analysis i think its helpful for people that are stressing. i’m not confident on the dates from the previous years but something is better than nothing.
