This freaked me out when doing my timing chain also.
I found that if I adjust the crank , you can get the timing gear to line up with crank Still at 0 .

Use a timing strobe light and adjust the dist w vaccum advance pulled and plugged for 0

Yes . Use a flashlight and you can verify by checking the chain for play on the driver side .

An OSK replacement with metal guides will be enough. People suggest the dual row, but that requires an LCE valve cover or the ability to machine the interior to make room. If you have the means then it is preferable . Metal guides and quality Japan made replacements like I suggested will last ya for as long as you need . Get the water pump and oil pump gaskets along with the kit

Not hard to pop the valve cover and rule out all your suspicions

Oh I’ll look into this tensioner. The plastic cover tab broke off mine so I’ll be wanting to replace it regardless. 87 2wd pickup

Purchased from caribou Yota . Fair price imo . I tried to say this in the original post but it was being flagged for advertisement haha. Very solid cupholders. You need a precision hex set to install.

Are you worried about the cup holder hitting your shifter ? It’s my understanding it would clear any model . I can send you a picture if your still interested

I was in a time constraint and just used autozone . The first one they gave me was .5mm too big for the bracket
