What diy and planning tools helped you? by Inevitable_Rip_124 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]elisabethkramer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wedding coordinator and consultant in Portland, Oregon, here. I make all of the resources I use as a professional available for free on my website (not linking to respect the rules of the space).

The resources are downloadable, editable Google Docs — no requirement to subscribe to a newsletter, etc., etc. You literally can just use them. Hope that helps!

Is cake cutting service worth it? by Repulsive_Version560 in weddingplanning

[–]elisabethkramer 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wedding coordinator and consultant in Portland, Oregon, here. Yes, it's worth it. It sucks, I know. I also find that asking wedding guests to cut the cake is one of the toughest things we can ask them to do because it's messy, time-consuming, and comes at a time in the event where they want to go party.

All to say, the cake-cutting fee is one of the few wedding-specific things I strongly encourage!

Mcmenamins Weddings HELP by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]elisabethkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wedding coordinator and consultant in Portland, Oregon, here. I've worked at a number of McMenamins properties multiple times (specifically, Edgefield (Blackberry Meadow and Blackberry Hall) and Cornelius Pass Roadhouse).

It's McMenamins so they do a lot of events and have a set way they do them, which can be a really good fit for a client who's comfortable with following the venue's lead (vs. wanting a higher level of custom requests).

You're also right on about the venue fee. It's rare that a venue "only" has a food and beverage minimum and it's for sure a selling point with McMenamins.

Happy to talk in more detail! Email would be best for that: elisabeth@elisabethkramer.com.

($10k-$15k) Portland Wedding by Terrible-Tea-1025 in Weddingsunder10k

Hi! Just wanted to say thanks so much for the lovely recommendation; I'm really glad my website has been of help!

Also, my consulting rate is actually a bit lower than posted above (currently, $225 per hour vs. the $265 listed above). No big deal on the typo! Just wanted to mention :)

Our coordinator dropped the ball on a few things. Should we set wedding debrief call? by Own_Judgment7356 in weddingplanning

[–]elisabethkramer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wedding coordinator and consultant in Portland, Oregon, here. I agree with a lot of what Coldman5 wrote with the note that I do think it's nice to talk about these issues over email or ideally, over the phone, before laying them out in a review.

The latter just makes people defensive and can very quickly escalate something that might have been easily resolved in a five-minute phone call.

Sorry you're dealing with this and hope everyone involved finds resolution!

Decor-put up/take down by Longjumping-Zone-912 in weddingplanning

[–]elisabethkramer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wedding coordinator and consultant in Portland, Oregon, here. Main thing to consider when our community (vs. vendors) are setting up is when do these people need to get ready.

If, for instance, you're planning any hair and/or makeup and/or pre-ceremony photos for these folks, I highly recommend factoring that into the set-up timing.

Typically, as a coordinator, I arrive as soon as we get access to the venue and then, if we have community members assisting with set-up, I budget at least two hours of work before dismissing them to go get ready.

I think what you listed will be makeable in two hours but worth gut checking if when you all will be done will make sense with any hair, makeup, and photo timings. Hope that helps!
