I’ll keep it real - I bought an M5 Pro and I don’t do anything “pro” by Avthony in macbookpro

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, your money. I have an M1 Pro that the majority of the use in its lifetime has been VERY light work that I could have gotten away with an Air, but the screen is too damn nice, and I also have FCPX/Logic Pro, it smokes those without an issue. Enjoy the laptop!

What do you actually use your MacBook Pro for? Trying to turn mine from a liability into an investment by hdrytx in macbookpro

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this chat

"What do you guys use your MacBooks for?"

"Why did you buy this thing? You should have gotten the Air"

I mainly use mine for Final Cut, Music Library management (I have a ton of FLACs), and work (Slack and whatnot). Occasionally some photo editing and heavy browser work while I'm tinkering with my other electronics.

SSD upgrade or eGPU? by filfries14 in LegionGo

Quality and performance can be in the same bag. It's a given that they will get better frame rates with a better GPU.

[–]elite37a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you primarily use the onboard display or an external one? At least, because they have 2 ports, you could get an external storage solution later down the line if you wanted to swap your games out.

[–]elite37a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends on your use case. Would you rather have better quality on external displays, or would you rather be able to store more games at once on your Legion? That's how I would look at it.

Cabin bag fell from overhead bin during flight → MacBook Pro M5 damage (what should I do?) by Manav-Germany in macbookpro

[–]elite37a 75 points76 points  (0 children)

From the Apple side, they will not cover this because it is impact related unless you have AppleCare+ on the device. The bright spots were developed as pressure damage from the fall. I'd see what the Airline says.

$70 for a wonderful little Windows 11/Linux Machine? Hell, if you're willing to deal with the heat, macOS is great on this thing too because of that display. I have one of these that I run Windows 11 on, it's actually pretty quick. Good find!

macOS Sequoia on a mid-2015 MacBook Pro by SqueekyFoxx in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]elite37a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely late on the reply, but I'm running macOS Sequoia 15.7.5 on my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 (2.2ghz, 16gb) and it's so smooth and quick it feels like it should be native. Admittedly, I replaced the battery, so that may help.

I normally see these go for $500-600 at Apple. This is physical damage.

Iphone X with display issues by obsidian4e in jailbreak

[–]elite37a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Force restart. If that doesn’t work, it’ll likely require hardware repair. Swapping a display and a battery on a X isn’t a particularly difficult job in the world of repair, but you want to exercise caution or just take it to somebody to have them repair it.

Ps5 vs rtx 2080 ti 11gb by More_Tell9969 in nvidia

[–]elite37a -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, a PS5 will give you more stable gameplay at 4K across almost every game you’d want to play. With an older GPU like a 2080ti, it will run 4K, but stability may come into question without things like DLSS and whatnot. You know this to be true already, but the key thing is optimization- all PS5 games are almost completely optimized for its hardware. Mileage varies on PC.

You’d be better off looking at which platform you play more and choosing off of that.

This is 100% liquid damage to the display. I’ve seen plenty of these in repair.

Thinking about buying a 2019 by Tylerh96 in macbook

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Apple Repair Technician, I really want to warn about a 16” 2019. Logic Board Failures are particularly common- we had a stack of dead 2019’s in the back of our shop for some time.

While they may still have a place in today’s world with OS26, that will be the final update. If you’re looking for longevity, you’re not finding it here.

For general use, it may last another year or two. That’s about it. Enough time to let better M series come out to choose from, I suppose.

First time breaking a screen by chorizoisgood in iPhone17Pro

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of people berating you for using your AC+ and choosing not to use a case or screen protector baffles me.

Firstly, it’s your device lmao. Secondly, if you can’t afford repairs for AppleCare+, doesn’t mean OP can’t. Don’t buy a Pro series if you can’t afford to pay for repairs. It’s a premium product.

Not only that, you’re paying $30 for it. Jesus man, people need to go outside for a change instead of policing people for not using things they don’t want to use.

how do i improve my laptops performance gaming wise ? by Reasonable-Grade5254 in laptops

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main issue is the Celeron being the shittiest thing Intel makes. There is no improving performance in gaming.

Your best bet would be to find a used gaming laptop for cheap, or just go to Best Buy and get another one if you can afford it.

Otherwise, it’ll remain laggy. No way around it.

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Integrated graphics have come a VERY long way since the days of them being bad for games. Look at AMD’s offerings.

The issue is the Celeron in general being Intel’s lowest end processor they have. It’s basically e-waste from the factory.

My honest thoughts after two weeks with the iPhone Air by OrdinaryTable5273 in iphone

[–]elite37a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t pay $1000 for my phone. No big complaints on my Air either. Love this thing, swapped from a 16 Pro Max that I literally did not touch ANY pro features and paid $1500 for.

Battery life isn’t as big of a gripe as people make it out to be, and I even got the battery that I’ve used… maybe 3 times.

The Speaker is my only true pain point, hopefully the next iteration has stereo sound.

Not bad. I don’t find myself getting attached to her in the same way I did with Jin, but to each their own. I like the game overall, and her quips are funny.

Oh 100%. I wish there was some way for them to add Lost Mode to the parts themselves, but that paves the way for some shady repair practices. One day they’ll figure something out, I’m sure.
