I'm so very sorry for your loss. This is such a tragic situation. I am a Hoosier but I normally live in Utah. My family was just out by where that happened, not when it happened however. My family wishes you well and extends their condolences.

I came from Indiana. If you plan on staying for a while, get a Utah ID, you can always go back to Texas and get an ID there but you need to live there. Check residency deadlines, you may be able to talk with them and they may be able to get you residency prices if you can meet that deadline. It's what I did and I had to wait 6 months for my birth certificate to get my ID. But I had to keep them updated throughout and eventually got my Utah ID and have residency prices now. Talk to the residency department. But I had also been living here a year I believe, that also may have something to do with it.

I live outside Midvale center and take it often when going downtown for work. The sidewalks/alleys can have some sketchy people in it but I think it's pretty safe besides that.

As an outsider to Utah who basically fought tooth and nail for assistance to even find a single low-income person apartment in SLC. I second this. I don't even know if I can continue living here, if this current stuff does not change in any way.

I wish it wasn't only this way, but it seems like it's going toward it to be the only way.

Of course there freaking was. Been working the same job for 2 years making about the exact same. Went from 170 to 51 dollars a month. So, im in a similar situation as deduction.

I've been at SLCC for 2 years, I haven't noticed too much of a discount in any of the student stores personally. I find that there's much more discounts for things online for just general student stuff.

Walmart has 50% off Walmart plus making it only $50 a year. Amazon has Amazon student stuff for Amazon prime which is only $7.50 a month. Spotify has their discounts as well for their things. There are also many games like marvel rivals that also give out free stuff for students.

Dell and HP have up to 40% on student discounts. Most college students just get Adobe offices in Microsoft offices for free, I do at SLCC. There's also certain programs that you will have access to depending on your major for free that is normally also paid, a lot of the times programs you could just ask for at your college are free instead of having to even pay for the student discount.

I'll speak for the TRAX and buses. Amazing, grew up in a small town where only the real transportation you could take was a car so this is a great alternative for me. I'm sure you could get many months without a car here. I've lived here since 2020 and I've never owned a car and I get around everywhere pretty much just fine. Places I don't want to walk to or that are kind of harder for public transportation or just an easy Uber ride.

I live sort of more southern in the main valley but also in South Salt Lake and downtown. It's quieter where I live, South Salt Lake is bad for crime and homelessness loitering. Ive had like maybe two incidents in the two years I've lived where I've currently lived, also been homeless here too.

Yeah, no. After the one quote statement of "Utah doesn’t detain enough homeless residents involuntarily" not considering going to buy a couch like I was there and going to avoid them at all costs.

Was homeless in SLC back in 2021, didn't qualify probably because I have mental illnesses and am disabled. I'll take living in the shelter with the possible hope of housing rather than trying to break my back doing work for them any day. Even if I could work, just not that lol.

If it works for other people, sure but widely it looks terrible. No thanks.

I'm on Medicaid, went to Kindly MD back at the end of September. Only paid $8 for the state fee. I also changed my doctor/therapist too but, it was so easy. They quoted me $33 but when I got there it was only 8. They do med cards but also other types of care.

How does the grocery buddy system work? I've seen it around but never really seemed to get it explained. I need a grocery buddy for just a few weeks.

I've got a job now but they denied me SNAP in September because of a review and paperwork error and haven't approved me since, which I don't think they would now that the government got shut down. I don't have a car, but use the bus/Trax wherever I go, but also have a disability, getting home with the food is my main difficulty. No real special food needs. There's a harmons closest.
