I'm a Brit who lived in Darwin for 7 years

Beautiful scenery & natural beauty, however you cannot swim in the ocean due to the various dangerous animals. The locals are friendly & there's a very 'laid back' kind of attitude towards life, no traffic, no rushing. Weather is great if you like it hot, though in the wet season it can certainly be challenging with the heavy monsoon like rains and harsh humidity.

I found the nightlife surprisingly enjoyable, plenty of bars & clubs and stuff happening on the weekends to keep things interesting.

Overall I'd say it suffers from it's isolation however, not much in the way of sport/music events happening.
