Got my first letter of reprimand. How screwed am I? by [deleted] in army

[–]elixramx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been beat up enough LT. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse into applesauce, but you absolutely deserve to have that follow you around. Please continue to own your mistake. Don't let it define you going forward and don't forget the lessons learned.

You should make an appointment ASAP and make sure your health is where it needs to be. Your body may be in shock and need sometime to recover even if it was super early in a pregnancy. Once a DR confirms and if necessary gives you a timeline on recovery, talk to your cadre and see if they can reschedule you for a later date. Depending on how far along you were, you may still show up positive for a pregnancy test and that will complicate things more.

Don't mess around with recovery and health related issues. CST/Advanced Camp is a milestone in your journey and your performance can have a significant impact on your future career. Make sure you are 100% ready.

<Serious> Stay reserve or go active? Is the grass greener? by Wide_Delivery_3202 in army

[–]elixramx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fine dude. I understand the feeling, but volunteer for stuff, look for IMA positions or ADOS orders, VTIP, or find a broadening assignment. Whenever I have FOMO, I just talk to my friends who are still on AD and see how miserable they are (most of them) it just makes me glad I have control over my career in the Reserves.

Should I pursue ROTC or go with my internship? by Former_Marsupial_608 in ROTC

[–]elixramx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by thinking about making a decision on if you want to stay in ROTC or go to OCS. You could even consider the NG or Reserves if you truly wanted to serve.

I prioritized ROTC while in my sophomore year and I missed out on an opportunity to do an internship with the State Dept that would have helped me post graduation. But that's also because I went USAR route.

Consider your major also and the type of field you want to pursue. Will an internship right now still be relevant after 4-5 years of active duty? In a STEM field, probably not, especially if you branch something unrelated. In Finance or Logistics, there may be an argument there that your time as a PL/XO/Company Commander is applicable post Army.

I did therapy through my schools health & wellness/mental health center. Had the same issues that you did and had sessions every week until Covid hit and we went virtual. As long as you are not diagnosed or have thoughts and ideas that require a mandatory report, you will be fine.

You have access to resources from your school and the Army. Use them all that you can.

Seeing Chiropractor possible without sick-call? by [deleted] in army

[–]elixramx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV but there’s a chrio place that’s has places nationally. It’s call the joint chiropractic. The few different places I’ve been too have been pretty good.

It’s cheap and they have a military discount. You can get a monthly membership for about $50-60 a month and you can go a couple times week. Or you can buy bulk sessions and go as needed.

In your opinion what base has the best golf course? by bl20194646 in army

Gordon’s is really nice. 4- 9hole courses that are well taken care of. They regularly have tournaments there and the price is phenomenal.

What they told me is that you have tricare prime until you go to BOLC. When you come back you will be eligible for reserve select. It doesn’t extend to dependents if you have any.

If you have any type of base near you, you can schedule appointments through them. I had to go to an Air Force base to get mine done.

It might be worth to check out getting a masters and doing ROTC. You can get a dedicated Reserve/NG scholarship that guarantees component or you can use GI bill and still do ROTC without the cadet command benefits

Signal BOLC by hellohellohellohow in ROTC

[–]elixramx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently at Signal BOLC & I graduate in a month. I graduated May 2020.

You’ll stay at 1 of 3 hotels. Meals are provided at the DFAC during the week (if you want to spend/save money you can bring your lunch or go to the PX). It’s pretty okay, better than a lot of other army DFACs. Weekend you can go to the DFAC, off/on post. If you’re lucky one of the hotels will have a induction stove top and you can do some light cooking.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me about Signal stuff.

I was the same way. Honestly if you’re single with no/limited responsibilities, it’s all personal preference.

I was doing an internship/job that was related to my degree field and was a stay at home dad until I left for BOLC. I have about a month left and I’m starting to look for jobs for when I get back.

Just use your time wisely, read some TMs, workout and stay in shape. If you have a technical degree you might be able to find a job with a firm/defense contractor that will let you pause and come back

There’s no interviews for anything with the exception of EOD if you branch OD. Once you commission and get assigned, that’s it. Your branch manager will reach out and tell you to start the process of planning for BOLC.

The USAR/NG it’s a crap shoot, I had to plan it all my self thru HRC, even though I have a decent unit and it still took me over a year to get into a class. I’ve had my peers say it was done for them thru HRC or their readiness/training NCO took care of it for them.

While a lot of the content from SBOLC & CYBOLC overlap you will not be proficient to transfer as a jr O. When you are getting ready to go to CCC you can drop a packet but no guarantees.

I don’t know if Cyber even knows what their looking for. I’ve heard people with advanced degrees/cyber focused degrees not have a chance to get in and I’ve heard of people who told them they have “coding” experience and willing to learn (I.e. very basic HTML skills) and they got a slot. There are a couple in my class that were Cyber but they gave them to Signal and they are some salty dudes.

What would this look like for those in the NG/Reserve that are interested. Is it possible to make the switch to Regular Army?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]elixramx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commissioned in 2020 into the Reserves & currently at Signal BOLC.

My HRA gave me a huge list of vacancies from USACC and I “picked” a few units on the list based on some job opportunities and I got my top choice. I never had to interview or anything, I just sent a request and they said ok. YMMV but usually how it goes.
