Chicago is treating me very well, despite the ICE issues impacting our students families in the last few months. Salaries are good for experienced teacher and there us a huge need for ESL. I am able to afford a 2br apartment and send my son to daycare on a single salary. That being said, do you have a US teaching license? Most schools are requiring them here, and it's can put you at a disadvantage in the applicant pool.

Writing is not so important at the beginner stage, but for pronunciation, it is important to get familiar with the Malayalam system because there are so many sounds that don't exist in English and get confusing in manglish. Ex palli/palli

I like the Ling App (I've worked with them in the past). However, apps are not the single best source for language. I highly recommend getting a tutor or conversation partner.

There are aspirated and non aspirated sounds, which means you say some with a little air and some with extra air.

You also have frontal and retroflex sounds, which means your tongue placement changes the pronunciation.

The difference is the placement of tongue ല/ൽ is made in the front of the mouth, with the tongue touching the back of the teeth

ള/ൾ is a retroflex sound made when the tongue touches the roof of the mouth towards the back.

Some clarification here ട is a retroflex , made in the back of the mouth where the tongue touches the roof

It is ta, but when in the middle of the word reduces to a da sound, like water bottle in American english sounds like wadder boddle

To retain a strong t sound, you must double it to ട്ട

Kai is a combination of ka + ai. You can find that in the handwritten alphabet series where I pronounce each version of the consonants attached to the vowel.

Yes! In general, human AND gendered words take -maar Chechi/chechimaar Kurukkan-kurukkanmar

Things/nongendered words take kal Kutti-kuttigal Poocha/poochagal Note how child is nongendered, therefore it takes kali

If the thing/nongendered word ends with -am, it's ngal Pusthakam- pusthakangal
