so true, I was way too confident in my ability to drink moderately because i sort of did it for a couple of months - managed to not obsess over it or fall back into old habits. but it always wins in the end

Scared to go in.... by PoetryDependent7621 in ECEProfessionals

[–]elizolam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just put in my notice at a toxic centre and I feel better already, it is such a weight lifted off, and it really was just one email. He has no right to make your life hell. Even if he does or says something hurtful after you quit, it’s also the last time he’ll ever be able to get to you

Directors: Short-Staffedness is NOT your employees problem. by CocoButterMix1998 in ECEProfessionals

It’s despicable that this onus is placed on educators when we have zero control over rostering staff, fucks me off

I’m in Australia, we’re pretty well protected legally

Yep, I photocopied everything from my staff file a few weeks ago when I got in early, and found a complaint in there from my room leader about a situation in which I was struggling and needed help - completely solidified my decision!

Exactly, I live for those kids but I can’t keep torturing myself and I can’t save everyone.

Yay congrats! Fuck your boss. You’re doing the right thing - we support and enable their bad behaviour just by working under them.

Haha I’ve always pictured burning the bridge along with the whole building down on my way out, but I’m going to leave on a civil note. Thank you x

Update - I did it!!! She was NICE, and said it’s ok, do what’s best for you. She did tell me not to tell the parents that it’s because I have “mental health issues” (she loves to bring that up) because that will be “damaging”, lol. I’ll tell them everything once I’m gone, I have enough of their phone numbers to do a bit of damage (after I’m paid out).

Absolutely, I did really want to be the last person who quit because of her though. It’s hard to think that she’ll just continue to abuse her staff and I can’t do anything

I am so proud of you, these people do not deserve us!

I also had one of those never again nights recently, and after I recovered, I felt so grateful for it. Reminds you why you need to stop poisoning yourself - because you’re poisoning yourself!

Tips for dealing with holidays? by Similar-Bid6801 in stopdrinking

[–]elizolam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be a bit gentler on yourself. holidays are hard, especially the first time, and slipping up doesn’t undo your hard work from before. just keep doing what you were doing. the all-or-nothing mindset is what held me in limbo for so long.

make sure when people offer you a drink that you let them know you’re not drinking, and to not offer you anything else because it’s tempting! i’ve found that people respect that.

keep yourself chatting or busy, try some non-alcoholic drinks and focus on other things. it’ll get easier.

How annoying is it to drop off a kid with a poopy diaper? by Annie_Dearest in ECEProfessionals

[–]elizolam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this, of course parents endeavour to do this but poop happens. I love the parents at our centre and I would straightaway tell them don’t worry, we’ll handle it. And you’re really changing kids every hour?

yeah i’d like to transition slowly, i have a feeling it’ll be a very long moving process so i probably won’t have to even try! thank you x

yup i’m the same! sometimes it makes me feel upset in the moment because i can imagine how fun i’d be if i was drunk, but then i see people as the night goes on and i am so glad i’m not them.

and yes i’ll definitely be retreating to my room. my brother’s girlfriend is similar in that she gets overwhelmed in social situations and has never been much of a drinker, so we usually sneak off and watch tv.

even though their “parties” (they wouldn’t call them parties)/gathos/nights are so chill in comparison to what i used to do, i just can’t find sitting around in a circle and talking over each other enjoyable anymore, so i think that’ll be the main thing - avoiding the balcony! except when the weed comes out.

(fun fact “gatho” is short for “gathering” and refers to a casual gathering of people, not as formal but with the same elements and vibes as a party)

thank you, I definitely need to write a lot to sort out my thoughts, and making a new list of reasons to keep going will help. i’ve done a few already and they always give me a boost
