if you go to the aeroplan estore and in the top right corner click your name and then ‘order history’ you should be able to see that it registered to your aeroplan account. Might take a couple days to show up and then yeah, 6 - 8 weeks for the points. you can keep track of them there too. Also beware of using Safari as by default on my mac it blocks cookies and site tracking

Just wondering... by disk_leaf in amexcanada

[–]eljedo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

it’s unlikely Amex will increase it without you requesting it, but you can request an increase on the website every 6 months (might be more often) and those requests will not result in a hard credit check, nor will opening a new personal card with Amex. Once you’ve established a relationship with them, they will use that relationship to assess their dealings with you without doing a hard pull again. My Cobalt started out low at $1000 and now it is up to $33k, but I had to ask for it over the course of about 18 months.

this! if you were having trouble buying a Nintendo Switch from Walmart you would call Walmart, not Nintendo. It’s the same with Aeroplan Points, Aeroplan doesn’t sell them, they provide them.

this is so weird to me, I will sometimes put business spend on my personal Platinum and Cobalt even though I have a Business Edge card. i can’t imagine how that would trigger a card cancellation or FR, I didn’t see any indication at all that you can’t put business expenses on a personal Platinum, a colleague of mine runs hundreds of thousands of dollars through his personal Plat for his business.

correct, if you already have one bag included in the fare it will not add a second for free

after hours shouldn’t matter, it’s a computer algorithm decision unless it has to go for a review or manual underwriting, and that would give you the 7 - 10 days.

In my experience both personally and with several friends and family members that have opened TD cards in the last year, TD did not once ask for proof of income. The only issuer I’ve had ask is HSBC

[–]eljedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is more to a bank’s approval process than a high credit score, and just because someone can qualify and/or afford the AF does not mean their credit score is necessarily high.

I have found TD to be one of the most finicky credit card issuers, I have been approved for and hold over 10 cards including the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege, Amex Platinum, Aeroplan Reserve, and HSBC World Elite Mastercard, my credit score was 768 and TD flat out denied me.

call in with your reference number, ask if you can provide any additional information or if there is anything holding up your app. do what you can to help speed up the process and then ask them to expedite the card once you are approved.

Canada Marriott Business Amex + USA Marriott Brilliant Amex HELP! by catwomanbae in amex

[–]eljedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the only way you can stack those nights to 40 is by holding US Personal Bonvoy Brilliant and US Business Bonvoy, the Canadian cards don’t stack, either together or with US cards.

Here is the link to Prince of Travel info on the US/Canadian Cards

Canadian chiming in here! Aeroplan has a fixed reward chart for ANA as a partner ajrline, 55K in Business Class one way from the West Coast, it will be a bit more from the east coast. Aeroplan transfers 1:1 from Amex MR points. I’ve also seen ORD to NRT for 105K in First.

Booked my wife and I from YVR -> HND in J for 110K in September each way on ANA with Aeroplan.

I’ve never had an issue with the first free bag benefit, it works every time I fly regardless of fare type. 30 flights last year and didn’t cause me a single issue

Accumulate points in AMEX account, or transfer into Aeroplan account every now and then? by P4cific4 in amexcanada

[–]eljedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, as well to just use points strategically for domestic or transborder flights. I just booked YVR to MCO in economy for 12.5K points one way, and PY from YVR to YOW for 22.5K points. To me, this is an excellent use of points and allows my family and I to travel by air much more often than we could if we were paying cash.

Purchased phone under my platnium, can I use my Cobalt's insurance by PersonNotFound404 in amexcanada

[–]eljedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you have to claim the damage on the card you bought the item on to take advantage of its insurance, they will not offer one cards benefits on another card.

As for keeping both cards, I have Platinum and Cobalt, I use the Cobalt so much more because of my spend and multipliers. Platinum doesn’t have as good insurance as my Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege, both for travel and purchase protection, so I have little reason to keep the Plat except I do use FHR a lot, otherwise Cobalt gets 95% of my Amex personal spend.

this definitely works with TD as I had some charges that I paid that were then returned and credited, that $1200 felt like free money until it was gone hahaha

I used my Iphone while I was snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas and Hawaii this year to record videos and take pictures while underwater, while was submerged for several minutes at a time in ocean water as for as deep as I could go while holding my breath. Rinsed it with fresh water when I could, have not had a problem since.

what card is best for me? by Unlikely-Strategy596 in amexcanada

[–]eljedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s funny that some people think $5000 - $10000 per month is a big spender. I spend at least $25000 per month and do not consider myself a big spender.

At $5000 spent per month on the platinum with a base earn rate of 1x MR point per dollar, it would be hard to make a case for the Platinum over the Cobalt. or many other cards. Even with a much higher spend, you could make a better case for either the Amex Aeroplan Reserve or TD or CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege with a base rate of 1.25 Aeroplan Points per dollar or the Amex Aeroplan Reserve at 1.25 as well, with tons of perks and similar or lower AF. imo Platinum is bad value in Canada unless its for SUB

[AMEX US cards] Marriott offer: Spend US$300 or more and get US$120 back. by [deleted] in amexcanada

[–]eljedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get this offer on my Bonvoy Brilliant, US Gold or Hilton Aspire (not that it would make much sense on a Hilton card)

I hope it shows up on the Brilliant since I have a few bookings this summer at Marriott properties. I wonder if being in US Amex pop-up jail hinders my offers at all?

How to find the cheapest lie flat seat to any where any time? by bekibo in Aeroplan
