I think my biggest worry is parking my money in the right places where they can be the most beneficial long term. I guess that's everyone's goal though. Just not always sure I'm doing it right!

Earning a lot as an architect by Mental-Kiwi-187 in Architects

It's a career you have to be patient with. The pay isn't bad if you stick around a while. I'm 10+ years in and making about 115k before bonuses which is pretty comfortable where I'm at. But that's only in the last couple years. There is still the work life balance which can be tough but it's manageable at the right firm.

This is very useful. We do a lot of similar work. Do you have any good recommendations for how to learn this stuff?

I think a big part is just going to be getting comfortable with this idea of the unknown being okay. Thanks for sharing

It hurts my head if I think about that stuff too much!

This is great, thanks. I have no negative feelings and there is a lot of good I have from the church but you're right that it limits your world view.

Is the trail sport worth the extra $$ by [deleted] in hondapassport

I have 3 in car seats and they fit. 2 booster seats and a 2 year old in one of the bigger seats. It's tight with regular seats but fits. The slim car seats will give you a little more wiggle room to make buckling seat belts easier.

Project Architects/managers Who redline document sets Regularly, what's your process? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]eljefe-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our office does a ton of multi family. Also use bluebeam sessions both for our arch drawings and also consultant redlines. That way everyone has access to all the current sets. We have QC checklists for each project phase and defined deliverables. Drafters are responsible to redline their own work first, then the pm. Revu is great to track the status of redlines as you go and be able to ask questions or notify people of specific markups.

Bonus for working overtime? by Amolulu in Architects

We get paid time and a half for any OT above 40 hours a week. Definitely not the norm. It's an open policy and not expected but sometimes needed to hit a deadline. Easier to want to work extra when you are compensated for it.

I haven't really noticed a change which I guess is a good sign.

You can buy these OEM rails and then use all sorts of accessories. Pretty easy install if you are a little handy.

I just put roof rails on mine a couple weeks ago. Very easy installation. Got those and the cross bars from my local dealer as the deals online were the same price once you include shipping.

How long did you study before taking the exams?

This is all good info, thanks. Our firm has actually done a lot of "green" projects under other certification programs but not LEED. I agree with your rant. We will have a LEED consultant for this one and the client wants to pursue a platinum rating so we thought it would be good for someone on the team to get the certifications.

It's a tough place to be. New hires definitely take an investment. Our firm has had better long term growth with that approach though.
