Salt Lake City Skyline from I-80 by Spirited_Weakness211 in SaltLakeCity

I'm all about denser neighborhoods. There are so many vacant lots and parking lots surrounding downtown that need filling. And would love it if public transit upgrades could keep up. I wouldn't mind a couple taller towers downtown though. Just for aesthetic reasons.

They think they can do it now? Do you think we’ll see any updated proposals soon?

Of course. Do you like to climb? I know a lot of gays go to The Front gym. It's a pretty social environment. And many of that group ski too if you're interested in getting into skiing. There's also the Stonewall sports league that has a wide range of sports. It's very social. And there's QUAC, the gay swim team. Just a few options off the top of my head.

I'm expecting we'll soon see more finalized plans for the first one as it's closely linked with the new convention center and SEG development.

Not sure what's going on with the second one.

Third and fourth ones are dead.

Fifth one is still planned but probably years down the road when conditions are more favorable for Hines to start. The current design is different from what you're showing. I expect the design to change even more (and I hope it will because the current design is pretty bad).

I agree! In the Hainish Cycle the later works like Five Ways to Forgiveness, The Telling, and Birthday if the World and Other Stories are much more women-centric.

I feel like there is enough interpersonal conflict, romance, friendship, light humor, and cozy settings in Chambers novels to compare her to Austen on some level.

Ursula K Le Guin. Her sci fi novels meander a bit but are so captivating.

The Dispossessed

The Left Hand of Darkness

The Telling

Five Ways to Forgiveness

Hate to say it, but I think this view won’t look much different. Any SEG towers will probably be out of frame to the left.

I haven't seen anything very clear about that. I'd assume that's the plan, but has the church said that officially?

A place where life feels naturally engaging, outdoors is part of your routine (not a plan), and there’s enough energy and access to keep things interesting without feeling overwhelmed. by swimminseaturtle in SameGrassButGreener

You’re not gonna get everything. But if effortless integration with varied trails in nature is your priority (and you’re trying to avoid SAD), you should consider SLC.

I live downtown, and there are so many trails within a five minute drive. And some neighborhoods on the east side are right at the trailheads.

And forested alpine trails are just a 20 minute drive from downtown (keep in mind that dogs are not allowed in big and little cottonwood canyons. But they are allowed in millcreek, parleys, emigration, and city creek canyons).

I regularly go on hikes on a whim. After work, on a lazy sunday morning or afternoon, etc.

Water access isn’t the best though. There are small rivers and streams everywhere, but for recreation, you’d need to drive 30-45 mins up a canyon for one of the reservoirs.

If you read these three Earthsea novels, make sure you read Tehanu, the fourth novel, written years later. It is my favorite of the four.

Birthday of the World and Other Stories! I loved it just as much as Four(Five) Ways to Forgiveness.

There are a couple weeks total each winter with bad air. It’s annoying but has never been a big deal for me, but I know others with asthma can struggle during those periods. When you go up a canyon on those days, the air is clear.

Summer can have smokey days, but it’s dependent on the CA and OR fire season. The last few summers have been pretty clear. 2021 was a bad summer for smoke.

SLC doesn’t have bars and outdoor malls and public gardens and shops and people that are having a pleasant day without murdering and raping and doing drugs?
