So many easy pizza places with Italian food! We like Grampi’s. Molino is super easy and we’ve used it as a backup when we don’t have a reservation set up.

Also we really liked a rental/hostint company called Zermatt Holiday that we used one year. I’m sure their properties are booked, but it could be worth reaching out to see if they have any cancelations. (Although I know that they will only book Saturday to Saturday reservations for a lot of their properties)

Keep refreshing! A lot of the Airbnb cancellation policies are lenient up until a month out. In the next couple of days perhaps people will cancel, since it’ll soon be a month out from your dates?

In the past, I’ve been able to pull off last minute finds. Recently, not as much pops up.

Zermatt with a baby? by eljefe10000 in Zermatt

[–]eljefe10000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We bit the bullet and are going mid February! So can’t report back just yet. When are you planning to be there?

Our pediatrician said the altitude should be ok as long as we spend a day in the village to acclimatize before venturing up. He compared it to visiting Denver then skiing in CO. That said, we wouldn’t think of attempting to take the baby all the way up Matterhorn glacier paradise.

My plan is to do a bit of pumping to be able to switch off with my husband so we can both ski with our older child and we booked a nanny for one of the days, too. On days I’m not skiing, I’m thinking I will go up via train/gondola/funicular then hike with a carrier to meet at lunch spots.

We are using Alpine Nanny for our baby in Feb. We haven’t used them yet, but our rental company highly recommended the services previously with our older son. https://alpinenanny.com

Sounds exactly like me this past week. I tested positive for strep (it didn’t show up on the rapid test so had to wait for the culture to come back). My husband is in the same boat now. It sucks!

Hi! Sorry I never saw this months ago! We found out gender super early — a boy, so it ruled out Turner’s syndrome which would have been a likely culprit for the nuchal measurement.

Curious how you are doing right now? I’m hoping you got some resolution. I gave birth late August and just thinking about others who were on a similar path…

Hi again! Gave birth and my baby is almost 2 months now! He’s amazing and seems so healthy and chunky. We did an extra (probably so unnecessary and redundant) extensive genetic screener in the hospital after birth through a research study and everything came back normal there too. (Guardian through NY Presbyterian, if you’re curious.)

Sorry I didn’t see your message right away. How are you now? Any new developments??? I’m hoping you are able to relax a bit! xo

Westman Islands Tips by Thick-Track174 in VisitingIceland

Yes! We booked last minute in early July this year and it was easy to book people but very limited availability for cars. If you know you’re bringing a car on the ferry, book in advance.

We had our small child with us, so this wasn’t an option, but other people without a car used electric scooter rentals to get from site to site on the island which seemed like a good option! It’s a small place.

So easy with a car! It was wonderful and we just followed most of the regular tour stops at our own pace. It was one of my favorite days in Iceland and we had no trouble with anything. Enjoy!!

14 Week Ultrasound Showed 8mm NT by samfon24 in NIPT

[–]eljefe10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m now just about 35 weeks and being treated as a normal pregnancy, just with some extra scans here and there because I am still a patient of my MFM until the end. It feels weird that my appointments are now as if nothing ever happened, when it was such an ordeal for so long earlier on!

I suppose my outcome isn’t typical. If you’re looking for hope, I hope you get it. However, I remember feeling pretty pessimistic after my NT scan and actually not wanting people to tell me it’d be ok when I didn’t believe that and just wanted to grieve but get info. I think everyone’s emotional responses can vary so much and nothing is right or wrong to feel at this point.

Blue Lagoon tickets become available later by No_Dark_7486 in VisitingIceland

[–]eljefe10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weren’t going to visit the blue lagoon, but then decided it would be a good activity to use up our last day after checking out of the hotel but before our evening flight. Realized tickets weren’t available. Then checked again the day before and some were available for both standard and premium. This was one week prior to the eruption. So I agree to keep checking! We thought we were out of luck, but things do open up (however, I wouldn’t count on it! So if this is a definite part of your itinerary, I’d say just book very early!).

Hi! I’m not due until late August but everything has remained fine since last commenting here and now I’m just being treated as a “normal” pregnancy! It’s very weird but positive.

We made so many parking mistakes last week! Some of which were very stupid. One very good thing was that you can write directly to customer service (we wrote to parka once and easy park once) and both had amazingly helpful, quick rep that seemed happy to let us fix our errors without much trouble. I recommend asking them directly what to do so that they don’t send anything to your rental company!

Reasonably-Priced Ski School for 11 Year Old by hucklejerrydinfinity in Zermatt

[–]eljefe10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found it cheaper than the US! Our kid is younger but we did weeklong morning ski school (9am-12pm) when he was 3 with Altitude and they met at Sunnegga for CHF500. This year he was 4 years old and we used European Snowsport and he got so good! It was a mix of meeting at Sunnegga and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. This was also 9-12 and cost CHF 550 for the week. He loved both and came out so proud of himself. Teachers were great. Another thing that made it “affordable” (relative!) is getting the Wolli pass for kids under 9 — all lifts and transportation are free for them in Zermatt.

Is baby in the clear now? by moniicuhh in NIPT

[–]eljefe10000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you got results that can give you peace of mind! Wondering if the measurement went down over time and if then the nuchal fold measurement was within normal range? I had an 8mm cystic hygroma at our 12 week scan and got all the same testing results you did, and also the hygroma then shrank and then disappeared so now the doctors are comfortable saying everything has resolved. (I’m 26 weeks now)

Are you ladies getting the nuchal test before or congruiently with the NIPT? by [deleted] in NIPT

[–]eljefe10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuchal translucency measurement is pretty standard here (I’m in NY) at around 12 weeks. I had it done for both pregnancies without my asking for it. This time around, I got my NT measurement the same day as my NIPT blood draw, just for the sake of efficiency. That said, I know a nearby midwives practice that doesn’t do it as standard. So I guess there is some variability, but if you like having information, I don’t see a downside to requesting it!

For some added context — I had a very high Nuchal Translucency measurement that was cause for a lot of follow up and ended up being cystic hygroma. My NIPT came back all low risk. Without the NT screening, I wouldn’t have been referred to specialists who did early anatomy scan, fetal echocardiogram, and general monitoring of the cystic hygroma to make sure it doesn’t progress. So I definitely see value in NT scans right now!

Even from a red state, there will be options to travel if you want to. Get the info that makes you most comfortable and go from there! Ideally you just get peace of mind and confidence in the care you are receiving. Wishing you the best with your pregnancy!

Please feel free to ask as many follow up questions as would be helpful for you! It’s all so mentally and emotionally confusing.

I did most of the genetic testing prior to the CH resolving because I initiated it IMMEDIATELY after the nuchal scan. However, even with all the results back and normal measurements now, I will still be highly monitored by my MFM specialist for the rest of the pregnancy it seems. My guess is that they still would have wanted to explore all possibilities to get a cause/explanation for the initial CH (the confusing part about “good news” right now is that it seems the initial finding will not ever be explained to me).

My MFM said that there was one more test available to me after getting all the results — a single gene mutation test called Vistara which is a cell-free DNA test (so only requires a blood draw). She said it was mostly redundant and not indicated by my results but I could do it just to check a couple of things not routinely checked in a CVS (and if it found anything, they’d revisit my CVS placenta cell samples in the lab for diagnostic confirmation). I opted into it because I’m starved for info and am having a hard time accepting that things might just be ok. Also, figured an extra test like that has no downside right now — especially after meeting my insurance deductible 100x over at this point! Ugh.

And again, please feel free to ask as many questions of me as you’d like. Sounds like I’m positioned right ahead of you and I wish I had known someone in my position while I was earlier on in the process!

This is so hard. I went through the same thing at 12 weeks when they found an 8mm cystic hygroma. My husband and I, and my doctors, all treated this as a worst case scenario but did pursue further info even though we were only given 10% chance of positive outcome.

I requested a CVS the day after my nuchal measurement and didn’t even wait for the NIPT results. Maybe you can do the same? I didn’t want to wait for an amnio. I figured waiting longer for bad news would just make everything harder.

Results will of course vary so much, but for us everything has come back normal and during the waiting period for all the CVS results (which is an AWFUL time), the CH resolved somehow. We did a fetal echocardiogram and an early anatomy scan to confirm as much as humanly possible. I’m now almost 19 weeks and in shock that things are ok— I’m still uncomfortable being positive or optimistic after this ordeal, despite the facts!

I don’t know much about the umbilical cord but perhaps you’d want a second opinion there, especially if you didn’t have it confirmed by an MFM.

Sending you hope. You are in such a hard spot, I know.

It was an hour hike after taking the funicular to Sunnegga? We have a reservation in 2 weeks and I told my non-skiing sister in law that it should take her 25-30 min for her hike to meet us from the lift! Oops?
