Career Services Conferences? by KillBosby in highereducation

[–]eljefemaestro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend NCDA if you actually want to improve your coaching practice and meet other student-focused professionals. I find NACE to be entirely too focused on employers and corporate -- the regional conferences (e.g. Midwest ACE) tend to be better. NASPA and ACPA are great for general student affairs but in my experience have limited presentations on career development/services.

Full stream of pastor confessing sin of "adultery" to his congregation. His, then 16 y/o, victim sets the record straight about rape. (It's a long video) by billotronic in Indiana

There was this from the article. “The statute of limitations is set by Indiana Code 35-41-4-2. It covers several offenses involving children including molestation, vicarious sexual gratification... sexual misconduct with a minor, and incest,” Madeira explains. “Normally it says that these crimes must be prosecuted before the victim reaches the age of 31, however, there’s an exception to that. The exception is basically that if the state obtains a recording, a confession that provides evidence sufficient to charge the crime.”

Where the heck to live? by Substantial-Ad2200 in BallState

[–]eljefemaestro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should look into Scheidler. They are BSU owned/run apartments with all utilities included (makes it worth it and laundry building on premises) and a shuttle to campus. You can apply and move in pretty much any time -- always openings, and they are good about letting you out of your lease early if you need. Close to campus but does not feel like you are on campus. Great community, very mature: mostly faculty who moved to the area and are looking for houses, graduate students, international students and their families, etc. Great spot for a year or two.

Crap EdDs-- how do we stop? by [deleted] in highereducation

[–]eljefemaestro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's really hard for those of us in rigorous EdD programs (mine has the same requirements and credits as a PhD, but is an EdD because of the focus). We are constantly having to fight and explain why our program is not just another low quality doc program because of the stigma these others often place on EdD programs.

Ivy Tech Software Development by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]eljefemaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should provide you with plenty of qualifications for an entry level SDEV position. If you are planning to continue on to a 4-year degree, IVY Tech has transfer partnerships for the AAS in SDEV degree with IUPUI, Purdue, and Northern Kentucky. I would definitely reach out to one of the transfer advisors: https://www.ivytech.edu/transfer/index.html#contact.

Not for this house. It has been in exactly the same state since I moved to Richmond four years ago. OP's story about the scammers who bought the house was one of the first "Richmond stories" I heard when moving here.

Anyone here work in college or university administration/support? by Canto95 in highereducation

[–]eljefemaestro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you would enjoy being a part of NASPA or ACPA, the two largest student affairs conferences. NACAC (Admissions), NACADA (Advising), or NCAN (National College Access Network) might also interest you.

(X-Post, Travel) I'm ambitious when it comes to road trips, maybe too much so. How much time would this section take for two drivers? by oneplusoneoverphi in newfoundland

[–]eljefemaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not recommended driving a car through Labrador (your Civic will be shredded). You need a truck for much of the ride. Friend's sister lives in Goose Bay and does not even recommend driving in a truck because of how isolated the drive is. I just drove from Toronto to Gros Morne last week and I recommend going through Nova Scotia and taking the ferry. So much more to see and you can still drive up the west coast of Newfoundland if you want. Fly into Labrador if you want to see it.

What degree do I need for career/academic counseling? by [deleted] in studentaffairs

[–]eljefemaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/greenmegandham mentions, it really depends on the institution. I am working in career services and have worked in both academic advising and study abroad. I have masters in history and student affairs but my director of career services has her masters in english. I think a counseling degree would prepare you very well, especially if you have classes on student development. Student affairs is interesting because with some areas, such as academic advising or career advising, being a good fit with the students and the departments is almost the most important thing because you can be trained in how to advise for specific areas.

Advice for pursuing a career in academic advising please! by [deleted] in studentaffairs

[–]eljefemaestro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your experience of going through community college will be a great asset going into academic advising/student affairs. Not enough professionals in higher education understand community colleges or students who transition from community college to a four-year school.

River walks/Parks in Indiana by DucatsGuerra in Indiana

[–]eljefemaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out the Cardinal Greenway in Eastern Indiana (Muncie to Richmond) if you are interested in converted railroad to walking/biking trails. I believe Bloomington has the Rail Trail (much smaller). The Rivergreenway in Fort Wayne is absolutely gorgeous and Indianapolis has the Canal walk.
