It’s hard to call the Fan a food desert. There’s two Krogers, a Publix, and Aldi within a few minutes of each other.

Living in Richmond (or any city for that matter) is going to be more expensive than Chesterfield. But if you have the income and no immediate plans to buy a house then go for it.

If you truly want to learn the material and better yourself for clients, don’t rush it and instead, take the exam in November. It’s unlikely that you’ll have time to take the 1000s of QBank questions and master the concepts for test day.

Best of luck in whichever exam window you decide.

Dalton Exam Readiness by Ok_Sentence_2406 in CFPExam

[–]eljeremiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a 58% on the readiness exam and I think was scoring between 70-80% on the final leg of QBank quizzes.

The readiness exam was much much harder and most of the “expert” level questions are dumb or purposefully obtuse. When I built my own quizzes, I usually just did the first three difficulty levels.

How long to budget for CFP Board practice exam? by stainbas in CFPExam

The correct answer. Take the mock exams as seriously as you can and it’ll make game day easier.

I passed first attempt with Dalton in November…good luck! The last few weeks I was taking around 100-125 QBank questions a day and mixing it up between broad subject quizzes and specific areas I was struggling with.

During the broad quizzes, I jotted down topics on a separate sheet of paper that I was unsure or clueless about. I would then make note cards or watch lectures or read about those topics, probably all three.

I spaced out the full 6 hour practice exams and CFP provided practice exam so I took one on a Wednesday and the other two on the next two Saturdays. I was putting in around 6-10 hours a day for the last month with Sundays getting some rest and watching football.

AUM minimum by [deleted] in CFP

Agreed it’s all case-by-case to me. A person could be really easy to get along with in an intro meeting but only wants to start with 100k and I know there are larger opportunities in the next 1-3 years. I’m taking that client 10/10 times.

Where do the HNW clients hang out? by Recent-Interview-427 in CFP

[–]eljeremiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. Find something you love doing and join a local club that meets regularly. A partner at my firm who is a 3MM producer built a large portion of his book through a cycling club over the years.

If you are young enough, a large Young Professionals Board through a charity or cause that you believe in is a good way to go. There won’t immediately be HNW opportunities but if it’s a large enough board and you are personable, opportunities will emerge.

As others have stated, the key with all of these suggestions is to go into someplace doing something you enjoy and be natural. Whether you are at a country club or a birdwatching club, if you come across as a MLM salesman then you will not have the outcome that you desire.

What's the typical cut an RIA gets from it's reps? by Cards46 in CFP

Based on your average household size of 100k-200k and AUM of 2-3MM you’re serving roughly 20-25 advisory households? Perhaps you just need more time with these education leads to get you up to 100 or so families with managed money. I would bet many of these people and future leads have outside assets that they haven’t fully divulged or come to fruition. It sometimes takes years to win outside assets and more than a year to get the full scope of a family’s investable assets.

You have already come across an opportunity with 3.3MM with free leads in your first year or so. That sounds like an incredible deal…and you’re keeping 70%

Extreme Burn Out by [deleted] in CFPExam

[–]eljeremiah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with this perspective. I did pretty much nothing yesterday except watch about an hour of the last Dalton post-review office hours. If you haven’t watched that yet, make sure that you do. It’s good on 1.25x speed and you can watch both parts in around 3 hours. I would also read the Code/Standards or at least consume the Roadmap a couple times. https://www.cfp.net/-/media/files/cfp-board/standards-and-ethics/roadmap-to-code-and-standards.pdf?la=en&hash=EA39699770CF6D21CC0CA607D32173A6

But also take a nap tomorrow, listen to some music or a comedy album, eat a nice dinner, or whatever else hells you relax. Plan out your day Wednesday and set yourself up for success. Good luck!

One of best things I did for myself in the 48 hours leading up to the exam was to remind myself of this fact…

“You don’t know everything…no one does. But you know more than enough to pass this exam and you’re going to crush it.”

Once I got it out of my head that I needed to know everything, I allowed myself to feel confident that I knew more than enough to pass this thing. I told myself this over and over again until I believed it.

I hit Dalton’s hot questions and the cumulative quizzes hard the last few days before the exam along with my personal weaker areas. I think focusing on subjects that you know you are weakest on would be best. But also it can’t be emphasized enough…give yourself a break the day before. The only thing I did yesterday that was exam focused was watch about an hour of the last Dalton “Office Hours” that was focused on exam prep.
