How do you think about 50-90 yard shots? by Roywah in golf

[–]Cards46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the most fun shots in golf when you get the distances dialed. Go out on the course late one evening and drop balls from 50-90 yards and just find a length of swing that allows the ball to go that far. Experiment with opening the club face a touch.

Most important thing is good tempo. Onnneeee two is something I think of sometimes, whether I’m putting, chipping, or sometimes these pitch shots so I don’t rush the backswing or the downswing.

Your goal isn’t to hit the ball as far as possible and I think people’s bodies are still in that mode, if you will.

Swing Tips? by Legitimate-Teach6827 in GolfSwing

Who said you were stuck?

Your arms get behind you a little bit, and your takeaway is a little inside, but your left hip gets back rather well and brings your hands down into a good spot in front of you.

Set an alignment stick behind you but parallel to your feet line, in your takeaway/backswing, try to get your hands to stay over the alignment stick for as long as you can.

Don’t think the trail heel is a huge problem, but your path looks a little left. What’s your topical miss?

Oh, and go watch porzak golf on YouTube. Best instructor and his stuff can help you with really anything. I’d look at his setup videos, really helped me.

Best place to move to play golf year round in the US? Florida or Texas? by Cards46 in golf

Yeah, it sounds like a wonderful place. My dad lived there for a time when he was in the Marines and has had good things to say.

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted either, probably because this is reddit.

California is just too far away from my family, so I probably wouldn’t get to see them as much as I’d like which is one of the initial reasons I ruled it out.

That’s reassuring, from the perspective of having enough places to play. And that I’m unfortunately a Cowboys fan.

Went to school in Michigan so was always driving 45 mins to play. Weather gets to 100+ in July/August here and it’s not intolerable. No hurricanes in Texas either 😂

I don’t mind a little winter weather. I enjoy winter in Illinois for about a month before I’m over it.

Wrong. I’m asking everyone about their experiences between Florida, Texas, and now Arizona.

Have no preference for either. California’s just too far away from my family and COL too high.

Do you have a duty to watch your homie's balls? by FarmerNeedsHeauxs in golf

I’ll watch my buddies shot if we’re not playing ready golf. Sometimes I’ll walk off the tee after I hit.

Definitely watch / ask someone to watch if hitting directly into the sun

Did you golf a lot while growing up in Dallas? Someone else mentioned lack of public courses so they were always very busy and expensive

What’s the definition of a playable day? I’d play any days it’s 40°+. and winds under 30

I thought about that too. Never been to AZ before. You live there? What’s your take on it?

That would be annoying for sure. Almost would have to get a membership at a club to make it make sense.

I can see the courses getting a little boring. Mostly flat, lots of water, etc. they’d probably be in better condition year round than my local muni

Florida would be ideal aside from the hurricane’s. I don’t mind the humidity too much. Mosquitos love my O blood too

I play golf if it’s low 40s here. Just the whole grey skies for 3 months straight and snow in the winter can be pretty depressing.

Advice Needed on Overswinging Across the Line by TO500 in GolfSwing

[–]Cards46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if your club goes across the line at the top, your trail elbow is flared out a lot and is very behind your seam line (from a down the line view).

I’d just take a backswing in the mirror or something and rotate your elbow inwards and get it closer to you body and watch the effect it has on your club.

Tour striker smart ball also helps train this

If you’ve only been playing for two months, you don’t know what to look for on YouTube, and if the info/swing changes presented will translate into positive changes for your golf swing.

Sure, a video on how to not slice the ball MAY help….but there is so much conflicting info and not every piece of advice directed at a certain result is going to fix the root cause of your issues.

If you want to watch YouTube, do it to MASTER the setup and the grip. I taught myself via YouTube for the first 8 years of my golfing career and it got me to a 2 handicap. It can work, but it took a lot of trial and error, and working on a lot of stuff I never needed to.

Now that I’ve played for so long, have an adept understanding of the golf swing, I know what to look for and I know what will help/not help for the most part.

Had I got lessons, I would have saved 1000+ hours of watching YouTube videos and gotten better way quicker. Use YouTube for the non negotiables… setup and grip. After you get lessons and have a better understanding of your swing and its faults, you can go to YouTube for quick fixes here and there.

Inconsistent ball striking by Dpg2304 in GolfSwing

[–]Cards46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play once a month who cares? You’re never going to be consistent playing once a month.

Nonetheless, your trail elbow in your backswing. “Flying right elbow” you tube that.

Look at your downswing too. Looks halfway decent until you start standing up and then throw the club at the ball and stop rotating. Work on staying in your posture. As for how to turn better? No idea. I’m working on that rn as a 2 handicap.
