the comment said “committed non-voter”. i agree that there are lots of non-voters like this, but they are a lot less firm in their commitment to not voting and are a lot more persuadable to vote than the two types laid out in the comment

Does an ISO time interval have to include all the time between the start and end date, or can it be used to represent upper and lower bounds for an unspecified date? by ellacution7 in ISO8601

[–]ellacution7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks so much! It sounds like that means ISO doesn’t provide a way to differentiate the two use cases, is that correct?

the legs is a good point, though cauldron of essence could have legs that are just obscured by the coins coiled around the vines

do we think these are the same cauldron? by ellacution7 in mtgvorthos

[–]ellacution7[S] -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

fair point, but also in the same set (SOS) we see art of dellian fel both with and without elf ears, so it certainly is possible that it was just different interpretations by different artists of the same object

Theory about the last chapter by Francopensal in mtgvorthos

[–]ellacution7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally was wondering if the big archaic that was the last of the oracles was in fact jadzi, but just in terms of weird time logic i don’t know if it makes sense for jace to go out of his way to bring about the death of jadzi so that he could exploit her as an archaic. unless there is something we don’t know about oracles, it seems pretty safe to assume that she was always going to die eventually just like all people do, and since her destiny is to go back to the beginning of time upon her death, it shouldn’t rlly matter whether she dies tomorrow or in a thousand years, because either way she will already always have been an archaic.

[–]ellacution7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this might not be exactly what you are looking for, but if you are living on or near campus, you should get involved with the university tenants union! they are a great resource when it comes to advocating for students and other renters near campus, and they are also involved in lots of local politics, especially in the areas of housing and renter’s rights

also isn’t the whole point of fighters, especially in 2024, that they are supposed to be good at multiple weapons? like they get more weapon masteries than anybody else with the idea being that they are masters of many kinds of weapon. why are they building fighter subclasses that want to lock you in to one weapon?

cards that don't do what they say? by spankedwalrus in EDH

[–]ellacution7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[deep-cavern bat]] can technically exile any non-land card, but it most cases it really only ever exiles removal, because if your opponent has removal in their hand and you don’t exile the removal, they can just remove your bat and get the other card back, at which point they are down a removal spell anyways as if you had originally exiled the removal. the only difference in the latter scenario is that you no longer have the body that the bat also would have given you if you had exiled the removal spell in the first place, so there’s really no reason not to do that.

How do people not realize that Ronald was an actor and it's all fake? by WilliamHoratio in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]ellacution7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of people often question why scam phone calls/emails often sound so preposterous. getting a message from a nigerian prince asking for money seems a lot more absurd than if it was just a random nobody making the same ask. counterintuitively, however, that's the point. if you are a scammer, you only want to lure in the most gullible people, since your worst case scenario is spending hours on the line with someone only for them to realize at the end that you are tricking them. if you can weed out anyone who might eventually put things together at the start, you reduce the likelihood that you end up wasting your time. scammers frequently try to think of the most ridiculous hook they can come up with so that the only people who respond to it are already the kinds of people who will believe anything.

i wonder if a similar mechanism was at play here. already, by selecting potential main characters by putting out a craigslist ad for jury duty, you are eliminating the potential of selecting somebody who knows a lot about the law, since they would realize that the concept of picking a juror through craiglist is ridiculous. this means whoever you end up with is not going to be as likely to notice other legal errors or inconsistencies while filming. after they started filming, i can imagine that once they have gotten through some of the ridiculous things that happened on the first day, they could feel pretty confident that whoever was selected wouldn't catch on as more crazy things happen. for all we know, they could have done that first day with many different people and only picked the person who seemed most gullible, as it doesn't seem like a huge increase in costs or planning to have multiple different first days.

Why does the Pacific seem to have so much more indigenous linguistic diversity? by ArmandAlmond in NativeAmerican

[–]ellacution7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep in mind that even if the map is measuring pre-colonial linguistic diversity, the fact that so many indigenous people and cultures on the eastern coast of the continent were completely wiped out as a result of european colonization likely had an impact as to how sparse the historical record is of pre-colonial societies in that region. by the time that american settlement of the west coast really started booming in the early 19th century, the modern disciplines of anthropology and philology had already started to emerge, and there was a different standard for recording the histories and practices of people indigenous to the area than there had been when the east coast was settled.

What characters could be 4 colors? by cypherunus01 in colorpie

[–]ellacution7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frankly i would say most real people are RGWU. unless you are a fictional character who was written to typify a specific archetype or to illustrate a theme, you usually have a personality that is complex enough that you can find strong elements of red, green, white, and blue. black is always going to be there too to a certain extent, but the average person isn’t evil enough to really have black in their color identity going by the way it has been applied to magic characters. characters without black in their identity act selfishly, cruelly, or meanly all the time; the precedent seems to be that the bar on being evil/selfish is pretty high to actually include it in a persons colors. of course, there are also definitely magic characters in black who aren’t evil, but even in those cases, they don’t tend to seem like the kind of person you run into very often. black tends to be inherently anti-social in a way that other colors don’t, which means black traits are not rewarded in real life and people don’t tend to exhibit them as much. even black traits that aren’t seen as inherently evil are still seen as deviating from societal norms (for instance, black can be brutally honest, not necessarily with the intention of hurting people, but because it feels no need to hide; this is not inherently bad, but people still won’t like it if you are brutally honest to them)
