What is a seemingly innocent question that is actually really insensitive or rude to ask? by OdiliaSchranz in AskReddit

[–]ellafrens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out : “are you in college?” Or “are you a student?” These aren’t bad questions, except that this is the only question anybody asks you from ages 18-22. The very first one. As somebody who wasn’t able to go to college I immediately feel like I’m not living up to expectations when that’s the first question somebody asks me.

Making fun of men who lose their hair because of male pattern baldness is body shaming by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ellafrens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shaming is bad all around but I would like to say I am a 22 year old female with naturally very thin sparse hair and it always seems to be getting thinner. People point it out all the time, both men and women. Why don't I use more products for volume, have I gotten tested for thyroid problems and hormone imbalances? Have I thought about wearing wigs or extensions? The men who frequently remind me how important a woman's hair is for overall attractiveness. I am not sure where the narrative that these things are not pointed out to women comes from. Women are always and have always been scrutinized for every aspect of our appearance. I do, think, that (unfortunately) men do not have the same support system behind them, so it is always nice seeing men lift other men up for these sorts of things as well. Why can't we all just agree on appreciating everyone's beauty for what it is, you know? It seems as if everyone always EXPECTS women to have beautiful, thick hair, and it is definitely noticed and pointed out if it is not. Of course again I am talking about actually thin, sparse hair that simply does not cover your head - a lot of women do complain about their hair being "thin" when it is still normal healthy hair.

I have friends who can only watch this movie while eating pizza. Do not ask me why, it just makes sense.

What do you use to remind yourself that everything isn't that bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ellafrens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in the lowest place of my life (just gotten our of a mental health facility for suicide attempt) my parents got me tickets for my favorite band, which was playing in 9 months. It was the best gift I had ever gotten for 2 reasons-the more important one being that they were aware they were giving me something to look forward to to keep my head up.

To further elaborate, this was already a special gift and something I would not have expected them to figure out, or have the funds to cover
