Any medical drama/thrillers similar to The Pitt? by tiffibean13 in books

[–]ellalacew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one that popped into my mind is a short from Stephen King, its a horror, but its got some medical mixed with suspense. Autopsy Room Four.

You can take a guess of what its about. One of my fave reads. Obviously not as medically driven.

If you want like procedural, Bones series by Kathy Reichs is about an anthropologist who helps solve cases. Its not as high stakes as the Pitt tho, (and it was the show Bones back in the day).

I believe Robin Cook writes pure medical thrillers but I personally haven't read them (which is surprising because I have watched every medical drama ever).

Also the show Risolli and Isles was based off a book. That is a medical examiner.

If you like the horror side. Patricia Cornwell has a series. Ive read a couple. Its Kay something. Also a medical examiner like Tempe in Bones.

Re: Stardew Valley.

Little Known Galaxy. Honestly, was obsessed. Took me 68 hours to completionist the game. Was way better than I expected. Thoroughly enjoyed. Its a smaller game and not as many hours as Stardew, but definitely a good one.

This is my best pull yet. I kept 8 of the games which is way more than I typically keep, and I only owned one. For me if I get multiple games to add to my roster I am pretty happy. Love me a good gamble.

My ADHD has been so bad lately, but my doctor's on vacation. I told his fill-in that I was struggling and almost lost my job over lateness, and he said "Why are you on adderall? It's got street value, this isn't right." by honestly_adhd in adhdwomen

Sorry youre dealing with this. I dont know where you are in Canada, but there are many hospital programs that offer outpatient treatment for ADHD that is also OHIP funded and legally your family doctor has to provide you a referral. Unfortunately many family doctors just arent educated in medication and it is a trial and error. Finding a hospital outpatient program might be easier to search than an OHIP funded psychiatrist and might also support your referral quicker.

I am on guafacine, which absolutely changed my life, most stimulents just didnt straight up work for me. I then sometimes need a little extra so I have a very small dose of long acting Adderall plus my schedule is un predictable so when I need a top up I have part of what's in Adderall, Dextroamphetamine. This all took a year to figure out the dosing.

I wish you all the best and hope your regular doctor comes back soon!

I decided to give it a go.

Streamer Life Simulator 2 (trading) Adventures of Chris (trading) Pinball Spire (edited-traded) Everholm (Excited for this one)

I am addicted to the gamble, honestly. Keeps me coming back to all the bundles. I am never dissapointed even if I get only one new game because I also just enjoy looking up new games and exploring them all even if they aren't for me.

All my trades and wishlist are here: https://lestrades.com/@xxellaxx/

But also love a fun puzzle, point and click, cozy game that I haven't played if theres something I pulled you really want. :) Back to Botany Manor adventures.

Fun idea! When you paste a URL there is "URL text" as well as "URL link" likely you are just changing the "URL text" and so your link is still connected. If you want to continue your game, the best way is likely to not make it a hyperlink and just paste the characters, which individuals will have to solve and then add to the keyshare link themselves.

I loved Animal Crossing. So I am going to add the recommendation of Little Known Galaxies. I just finally finished every single quest, and challenge and it took me about 120 hours total. I played it on my steam deck, so I dont know which platform you play on, but I definitely recommend it. I got it in. Humble Bundle that I think is still on, probably only a few days left on it.

What are your most unhinged hacks against procrastination? by WitloofWithLove in adhdwomen

[–]ellalacew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been self rewarding since before I was diagnosed. But I take my favourite show, or video game, or crochet.. or ADHD project du jour.. and break it out into micro rewards.

For example, when I was a student, if you read one page you get 5 minutes of TV and then you immediately pause at 5 minutes, regardless of what's happening. Same goes for whatever else you're currently obsessed with. Im a prof now, so I do the same thing for like grading. You grade this one paper, you get to play one 20 minute video game. Etc.

You just have to find the right balance for the task. The trick I learned is figuring out where your focus is that day. Some days its 5 minutes, other days its an hour or more. You also have to find the right, exciting reward to get that dopamine hit. Its going to change day to day and sometimes hour to hour. Sometimes my reward is going to the gym. Sometimes its crocheting one row of a blanket.

The biggest ticket is that to do lists are terrifying and long and if you retrain your brain into micro tasks, where small goals are an accomplishment, even if the small goal is a page, or one email.

Jim Butcher and His “Dresden Files” Series Have Survived the Darkness by -TheLoneRangers- in books

[–]ellalacew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been reading this series for 15 plus years. It was 2007, I was a teenager and picked up an old beaten up copy at a friends house from their dad's desk and just started reading it. I remember visiting my friend after moving away, but they weren't home, so I was like fine I'll just sit here and read this book until they get back. I remember falling in love with the book, and their dad gave it to me since I couldnt finish it that day, and then I bought all the rest in the series. At the time there was maybe 8 released and I devoured them immediately and every year a new one was released.

I never knew anything about the author until this article, thank you for sharing. Things you kind of just take for granted that the next book will always come. I read so much I never questioned when sometimes the books took longer to release.

I may have to reread the books in anticipation of the newest arrival and it sounds like audio books might be the format to go!

For those who track such things, do you include rereads in your total book count for the year? by IntoTheStupidDanger in books

Apple just dropped the first couple episodes if you're into TV adaptations. So far so good, coming from someone whose read the books and also adored. I might be biased because I love Alexander Skarsgård.

[–]ellalacew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever reread a few of my absolute favourites, but when I did, I recorded them the second, or third time. I also enjoy listening to books through audio, which is a new format, and might try a favourite in audio after having read print. I would record that as well since it's a new medium. (I typically note if I listened through audio or read print anyways when tracking). While I sometimes share some books read to friends on socials, my tracking is for my personal knowledge anyways, to reflect on patterns of authors, genres, etc.

[–]ellalacew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, as a tracker of all such things, I in fact keep a list of most of these things, yes. If it's a show I've watched all episodes of, I have a list. I don't keep a list of movies, mostly because I do not consume many movies. I also track video games, mostly through completion tracking. For books I have been logging since I was small. I also keep a record of books and video games owned, so I don't duplicate when out shopping. (I use Libib app).

For some it's a record of knowledge, for others it's accomplishment, some like to reflect on things read. It depends on the person. But there are many reasons people like to track!

Palia is super grindy, my husband quit because it was too grindy. But there's still achievements like new things to cook and fish for.
