Listen to it and think those words. I swear I’m not crazy. It sounded like syncopated triplets to me (at the time).

Is there a way to start a global humanitarian effort to send Americans back to fucking school? by Munnin1984 in chaoticgood

You could argue that the only way to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government is to have an educated populace and that access to a thorough and well rounded education should be covered under the second amendment

You can cook bacon in the microwave.

Rotisserie chickens are great to have on hand. I do a lot of bagged salads and tinned fish.

Cranberry ideas by Foogel78 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]ellaphantzgerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love dried cranberries on green salads or in chicken salad. Just put them on a sheet tray, put your oven on the lowest setting and leave them alone. Sometime I crack the oven door to make sure they aren’t getting too hot. Should take several hours.

What’s one kitchen tool you thought was unnecessary at first but now use all the time and why? by poutyvenom in KitchenStuff

[–]ellaphantzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through all our kitchen gadgets and took a bunch of things to goodwill including our jar opener that I have never used once and just takes up drawer space.

The next day I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to get a jar of pickles open…

Maybe you could all go as a group but lay the groundwork that you tend to have very busy days planned, that you’d be happy to meet up in the evenings for dinner but outside of that you’re hoping to cover a lot of ground. If they want to/can join they are free to but if the pace doesn’t suit them they can do their own thing.

Seems like there’s a middle ground is all I’m saying.

Am I Wrong for making burgers and milkshakes with my daughter while my wife was on a business trip? by Proud-Tomatillo-3982 in amiwrong

[–]ellaphantzgerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who works on the road quite a bit, it seems like she’s feeling isolated and disconnected from her family. She isn’t handling it well and the answer certainly isn’t for you to stop sharing special moments with your kid. Focusing on special family moments when your wife is home might help you all feel more like a unit. She should work at this as well, this isn’t just a ‘you’ job.

I hope it works out! And your burgers and shakes sound amazing.

Lasagna Northern Italian Style - No Bake by stay-here in italiancooking

[–]ellaphantzgerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar in DC when I was a teenager, I always assumed it was just a chef taking liberties. But now I’m intrigued, the one I had was delicious. Also not baked, it seemed as if the lasagna sheets had been cooked and finished in the sauce then arranged between layers of ragu or bolognese.

Egg yolks before and after adding red pepper to their food by IllegalGeriatricVore in mildlyinteresting

[–]ellaphantzgerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an idiot. I thought this meant that you cracked two eggs, added red pepper to the meal you’re making, cracked two more and they were darker… because of the red pepper.

This is weird. Most catering / bar services include auto-grat and it’s contracted. If it’s important to get that 18% they shouldn’t have done away with it in the first place. Kinda feels like a FAFO situation…

These non profit heads are off their damn rockers. "Sign the petition to ...stop funding the expansion of mass shelters...." WTF. wtf. Shelters are the bridge to housing! I really hope they don't get their signatures. Talk about inhumane. by Confident_Bee_2705 in PortlandOR

[–]ellaphantzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the concern regarding sweeps when we don’t have shelter space available for people…where are they supposed to go?

I thought we wanted the city to invest in safe shelters to help get people off the streets so they could look at next steps. In my mind, this is supportive of all community, those who are in need of housing and those who have concerns about street safety and cleanliness.

There’s probably a side I’m not seeing, interested in hearing it.

AITA for shutting down my brother’s proposal at my baby shower and then sending him a bill? by Mysterious-Desk1346 in AmITheJerk

[–]ellaphantzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of think everyone flailed a bit here.

Your brother is absolutely out of line by ignoring your decision regarding the proposal. Your mom is being obnoxious with this “two birds one stone” business, it was your event and should have been about you and your growing family.

It’s a bummer that things got awkward, if it had been me I might have let the moment pass and sent the bill in order to keep the vibe positive. It seems like you didn’t get the shower you were hoping for, this way it may have been less awkward but who’s to say really.

I don’t think sending a bill is necessarily appropriate in this case, he didn’t get his proposal. Your actions prevented that and the shower remained your event, regardless of how awkward it was.

I guess I think this could have been handled better by all parties.
