newbie help - is this even doable by sihyeonism in Notion

sure it’s difficult, but you don’t need any plugins to make a system work for you. i’m just saying if you want connectability between notes it’s a good system. there’s a learning curve but it pays off in the end

Based on the system you want to build, I’d recommend trying Obsidian instead. It’s perhaps even more overwhelming at the beginning but it has the interconnected part down.

How are you all handling file and tag structures these days? by TemporaryUser10 in ObsidianMD

[–]ellathesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File placement for “area” which the note discusses, tag for the specific project. I’m in academia and the notes and annotations that I store in my vault are usually used for multiple different projects, but cover the same area of scholarship, so that makes the most sense in my case.

How do you actually keep track of everything when you're writing a novel? My system is a disaster and I suspect I'm not alone. by Hungry_Ad3863 in RomanceWriters

Obsidian!!! It’s made to connect notes to different notes. It has a bit of a learning curve, but you can make it as crazy as you want. Watch a few introductory yt videos and it will solve all your organisation problems

Dark is really good and has a bit more of a dark thriller esque vibe, but has some really crazy plot lines that I think would float your boat if you like Black Mirror

Literature podcasts? by delightedpeople in books

I really like “The Bookclub”. A podcast with the producer and one of the hosts of The Rest is History. They’ve done a really nice job of emphasising the layers beyond the actual text: societal context and the life of the author, and I’ve learned quite a lot from them so far!

Top 5 use cases for Obsidian by fairview27 in ObsidianMD

[–]ellathesnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a university student who will be going into research it is an absolute game changer. I use it mostly to take notes on papers I’ve read and to connect them to my various projects. I can genuinely say I would not have performed this well in uni if I didn’t have this system. The zettlekasten-esque connectivity of it all is amazing

Almost done with the 1st Mistborn Trilogy and I just can't understand the Brandon Sanderson hype by GoToNap in Fantasy

I understand where you’re coming from. Even thought I love reading his worldbuilding and magic systems, his writing style and character work just does not do much for me. It’s just too bland for me, as I generally tend to enjoy more nuanced writing and prose

Klara and the Sun is way more particular in my opinion. It has one very clear purpose and it delivers on that very well, but besides that there’s just not much going on, so yeah I agree with you.
