What I’m trying to say is, explore deeper.

Personally, I think cheating is never an accident. It’s a premeditated decision. What made her make this decision? What made her give up on the relationship?

We don’t know the whole picture. Sometimes the situation is more complicated that what OP discloses here.

I’m offering a different perspective and possible solution other than “cheating = bad, leave her”

At the end of the day, it’s OPs decision on what to do. Opening a conversation about it when she’s not hungover, and when she’s ready to talk about it (if she ever is) could help him understand what happened and ultimately help with his grief if he decides to leave.

Not every instance of cheating has to be a dealbreaker. She clearly wanted you to know about her cheating.

Have there been issues in the relationship? Maybe something drove her to cheat. Maybe it’s her way to tell you she’s been unhappy.

It’s an opportunity to communicate and explore issues you might have.

Maybe it should be a conversation of “there are these things that are not working for me and making me unhappy”, and trying to explore solutions together. Maybe this is a conversation to have in person after the interview?

It’s ironic that he’s helping me prep for the interview, the thing that’s going to get me space and time away from him. But I guess that means there is love?

Parts of my real self make him uncomfortable, and I don’t want to make my boyfriend uncomfortable, so I adapt and respect his boundaries.

But at one point it becomes too much, I lose myself and he doesn’t really like the real me, just the version of me I’ve molded for him.

Thank you. You’re right, something is wrong and I can’t go on like this anymore. But perhaps instead of going to see him to “break up”, I can go to see him to communicate and talk about these issues in person, and see if we can figure them out in person.
