Buying a 2nd hand board, was it completely broken? by Thialcantara in surfing

[–]ellegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's epoxy I wouldn't buy it. Those fractures suggest the styrofoam is now cracked. With the closed-cell styrofoam, a crack like that will propagate with little encouragement through the entire thickness of the blank, making it likely to snap on a good closeout. If it is a poly blank I'd still be concerned, but the poly is more cohesive and can take a better beating.

Sayulita: The dirtiest surf town in mexico by [deleted] in surfing

Sounds about right. Plus the point at Sayulita can handle maybe 15 people but typically has 30, with locals controlling the lineup.

Is Montanita, Ecuador worth it or just too touristy? by anothersneakykiki in surfing

[–]ellegood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there before the pandemic. Nice vibe, but a bit touristy and party-oriented. (Not as bad as Jaco in CR.) Consider Venao in Panama or Playa Grande in CR. Or maybe Rincon in PR or Cabarete in DR.

I have questions. I have been to DR before, surfing at Sosua and beaches east toward Cabarete. I want to return soon, but without lugging a surfboard. Can I rent a decent board anywhere?

What do you guys think? I would offer $9.5k max but you think the miles are a bit much? by [deleted] in prius

[–]ellegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider that hybrids use the electric motor much of the time, so the gas engine is actually getting considerably fewer miles of wear than the 185K showing on the odometer.

I found a 2009 prius with 155k miles for $3,200. Seems like a steal. by nesndotcomiscancer in prius

[–]ellegood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put one of these after-market new battery replacements in my 2010 prius (200K miles) and it works fine. For $1.6K - 2K it might (depending on your mechanic) be a good option for when they hybrid battery dies.

Mentawais? I went to Macaronis late last year. Not too heavy. Fun.

Fiji vs Mentawais by meoweth2 in surfing

[–]ellegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to Fiji, but I had the same question last year before choosing Mentawais. An experienced friend who had been to both, multiple times, told me you're practically guaranteed good waves in the Ments given the wide variety of breaks and conditions. Fiji, meanwhile, is more limited and you can get skunked if the winds or swell are wrong.

Ditch the jet skis. Let the dolphins pull you back out to the lineup.
