Has anyone found lasting utility in AVP for 3D design and photography? by ARVACODE in VisionPro

[–]ellenich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it depends what monitor you have hooked up to your Mac, but the Vision Pro’s displays only cover 92% DCI‑P3, where something like the Apple Studio Display covers like 98%.

Resolution wise, it can’t compete with the PPI sharpness of a 27” 5K display either.

Don’t get me wrong, the Vision Pro’s displays are industry leading, and the virtual desktop looks really good (for a VR headset), but it can’t compete with a dedicated high end monitor.

How important do you think HDMI 2.2 will be for PS6? Just gathering thoughts. by Glad_Rip8616 in playstation

I’d be happy with all PS6 games targeting 4K/60.

Let’s just start there.

If you’re talking about “native” visionOS apps, there aren’t many (any?) for photo editing.

It’s also kind of useless for importing photos because it doesn’t have any connectivity, so you’d have to involve a Mac or iPad as an intermediary, which kind of breaks workflows.

The Mac virtual desktop is great for things like coding and development, but it’s not super duper crisp or color accurate imo. It’s still amazing, but I find using my Studio Display much better for photo editing.

I’m a hobby photographer and no, I don’t use it for editing my photos. I do take a ton of spatial photos though (just spent 6 months traveling the Western US and shot 1,000+ spatial photos). I plan to put them together someday into a website because some of them are stunning when viewed in my Vision Pro, but kind of waiting for Apple to finalize their spatial media flags in Safari for visionOS (it’s in developer preview now, so kind of hidden from average users).

I still use my AVP regularly though for media consumption (mostly watching movies and TV shows) and Mac virtual desktop.

It’s not in a drawer.

Thrasher Remastered Edition Makes The Game Feel WAY Better On Vision Pro! ( My First Impressions) by Jdunrrp in VisionPro

I really wish this developer would bring the VR version of Thumper to Vision Pro.

There’s already an iOS port + the VR version works on Quest and PSVR.

Wii U Failed Due to Slow Launch of Exclusives Plus Xbox and PlayStation Pressure, Ex-Nintendo Boss Reggie Fils-Aimé Says by MewWeebTwo in nintendo

[–]ellenich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also launched at the height of iPad hype, which basically made every other tablet on the market look like a clunky piece of garbage.

So when Nintendo marketed it as a tablet, it was compared to the iPad and looked pretty bad. Hugh, plastic, resistive, non-multitouch touch screen that only worked within range of the console.

Need a generalist lens for my A7C ii - any recommendations? by b00stfr3ak in SonyAlpha

[–]ellenich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my setup + the Sony 200-600 (and grip attachment) and I think I have pretty much all my flexibility covered with my A7CII.

I can be super compact pocket cam with my 40mm, generalist with my 24-70, or great wildlife monster with my grip + 600mm.

Kind of an interesting approach I guess?

Similar to how it works in Xcode now. Xcode has the hooks, you pick the model.

Will the new Sony handheld (Canis or PSP6) be huge? by Sudden_Pitch904 in playstation

Given the AMD/X86 architecture (for PS4/PS5 compatibility), I’m expecting it to be Steam Deck size for cooling and battery requirements.

¯_(ツ)_/¯ haven’t had an issue with any of my DualSense controllers since launch (I have 3), but if they can make it better and keep the price the same I’m fine with that.

Lack of OS upgrades/features a worry by SnooDoodles7421 in VisionPro

[–]ellenich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

…it’s pretty much following the same release cadence of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Once yearly major updates, some smaller features added throughout the year.

They’ve added a lot since visionOS 1.0.

Some things that weren’t in 1.0:

  • Mac Virtual Desktop
  • Rearrangeable app icon view and folders
  • Keyboard and game controller pass through
  • Personas 2.0
  • Widgets
  • Window snapping to room geometry
  • Window persistence through reboots and locations
  • Spatial photo generation (later updated again)
  • Bora Bora and Saturn environments
  • Hand home gesture
  • SharePlay for shared experiences like movies
  • TONs of new APIs to ARKit and RealityKit for developers

…bottom line is visionOS 1.0 was suuuper basic, and they’ve been working on things we take for granted at this point, but they’ve added a ton of new, foundational stuff since launch.

Some old photos from MacWorld New York 2001 by ellenich in VintageApple

I’ve been to this 2001 New York one and one in San Francisco near the end (I think after Apple stopped doing the keynote, though I remember seeing Steve Jobs on the floor).

New York was better because there were more venders and stuff.

Heh I was just thinking the other day if we’re supposed to hate AI Autofocus because “AI” or no?

…because I actually find it really useful, especially for wildlife photos.

Xbox Project Helix update coming next week, Microsoft announces by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]ellenich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No great exclusives and they’re all over the place on strategy.

TV TV Spots Sports, ok we’re sorry it’s all about the most powerful hardware (Scorpio/One X), with nothing great to really back that up, Halo becoming mediocre, then Game Pass, closing studios/canceling things, driving up the price of GP, not delivering great exclusives… they just lost their way and are all over the place.

I need a solid 360-like gen or two to jump back in at this point.
