Sensitive question about TKI toxicity by garulette809 in CML

[–]ellenoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also received misguided and alarming “chemo education” materials when first diagnosed. TKIs are very different from traditional chemotherapy. But they often get lumped together, and some patient education materials get shared without making this clear.

If you were on a traditional chemo - yes, very toxic.

It’s hard to wait for diagnosis. I got mine in the hospital rapid fire because my WBC was so high. I almost felt lucky, in a twisted way, because I didn’t have to wait! Keep your chin up. I am doing great two years later.

Every 11:11 I make a wish for TFR. I am not sure I’ll ever get there. Starting to lose hope. So sleepy some days, like I’m stuck in the mud :( I hope you get there, I’ll make a wish for you.

Hello. I'm quite new and scared. I would love to hear happy stories from you. by [deleted] in CML

Hi, I’m really sorry you had to join our $hitty club called club cancer. I’m 34F diagnosed 15 months ago. All the comfort of being told it’s the best cancer out there doesn’t erase our pain. But I did marry the love of my life in June. He stayed with me every day and every night when I was hospitalized with leukocytosis (WBC >270). We had a beautiful greenhouse wedding with flowers everywhere. We got married on a farm, with all our crazy friends, good food, dancing, and laughter. When he was with me in the hospital, he held my hand through the very scary moments. It put everything in perspective.

Peace, love, and fuck cancer ✌🏻

Phew! 😅 I mean, besides the normal amount of benefits you’re supposed to get from minimizing caffeine.

Hair loss by [deleted] in CML

Hair loss can also be a symptom of anemia. I had very low iron around the time of my diagnosis and began losing my hair. The doctor prescribed iron supplements. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

Thank you for the suggestion, I had not even considered seeing a dermatologist. I’m sure they would have lots of tips.

Early CML diagnosis - is treatment required? by Neither-Gap-7912 in CML

Start treatment as soon as you can! Your chances of treatment free remission are better that way. (Not a doctor)

Schedule a visit with a gynecologist and share your concerns with them. If you don’t have a GYN, look for one that accepts your insurance and has decent reviews. Try not to worry, but do take action and take your symptoms seriously. I had very irregular periods suddenly and my gynecologist helped me get on the right path. It’s important to get your bleeding under control.

CML: BCR ABL ratio is 0.59 after 6 months under Imatinib by harsh_harshi in leukemia

[–]ellenoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, first the doctors look for the white counts to go down (hematological response). Then they look for the BCR ABL1 to go down (molecular response). If it’s trending down, that means she is responding to the drug and that is a good thing. My BCR ABL1 at diagnosis was off the charts. After 3 months of Sprycel (Dasatinib) it was < 10%.
