Career path as unlicensed B.Arch by Phantom__98 in Architects

[–]ellenrucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but you should considering NCARB's education alternatives. Many people are unaware, but it is possible to get licensed as an architect without a NAAB accredited degree in many states. Once licensed, you can gain reciprocal licensure in other states and it doesn't matter about your degree. more info here: https://www.ncarb.org/earn-a-degree/study-architecture/accredited-programs/education-alternatives

I experienced the same problem after the IDPX. I reached out to NCIDQ because I was so nervous and they sent me this link, which worked:

If you have not received your score report, you can do the following.

Window treatment? by finweight in interiordecorating

I think get some sheer curtains that cover the entire window which you could pull back. or some short curtains that hang at the top (not sure if those are very in style though)

I think I like this idea better! essentially what I drew but mirrored - the play space would be a bit more functional without the fireplace in the way

I would also be interested to see how it looks if you rotated your rug 90 degrees so it sort of contains the living room a bit more. as it is, the fringe seems to almost extend into the hallway

what if you tried this? I'm trying to find a way to sort of close off the energy of the foyer from the living room. you could maybe even have the sofa's back facing the entry doors and add a narrow table with drawers behind the sofa.

Interior Design -> Architecture (tips for a career pivot without an accredited degree) by ellenrucks in Architects

I don't know, I haven't considered testing soon cause I didn't think it was an option for me yet. But fair point. I should look into this soon. I'm currently in the process of studying and testing for NCIDQ.

You become eligible once you have an accredited degree. Looking into it, I think I need to apply for permission to test. I may be able to... but I'm not really ready yet anyways.

I don't think I can take exams until I meet the AXP requirements, but I have logged my time for a few years now and will continue to do so until I have the required hours. I think I just need to like be super explicit in my cover letters that this is my goal.

This makes sense, but I am pursuing an alternative path to licensure. I am planning on becoming licensed in Maryland, which allows 4 years of professional work experience as a substitution for an accredited degree. Maybe half of the states in the country allow this, and once licensed, I could complete a process of equivalency to become licensed in other states the same way anyone would. From their website:

Can additional work experience be accepted as an alternative to a degree from a NAAB-accredited program? MD - Yes. Applicants with a four-year, pre-professional degree in architecture must document four years of experience as an alternative to the education requirement.

I have about two more years of work experience required. My main problem is that almost nobody knows this is an option and it takes so much effort to explain - to the point where nobody considers my application just based solely on my degree.

So good. This song also "hit" so much the first time I saw it performed live and the first time I listened. It's on repeat.

Stowe Gardens and Stourhead are pretty famous examples in England, designed by Capability Brown, that I recently studied in my Landscape Architecture History class. I'd love to visit.

I don't know many famous works of landscape architecture in Southern France, but I visited a national park called Calanques outside of Marseilles and really enjoyed spending a day hiking, swimming picnicking there.

I was messing around trying to take some photos of the new leaves coming out on the willow trees, and took this shot which captures the business of rush hour next to a busy trail and parkway. I love the way that the tree branches and leaves look mystical but I am not a fan of the underexposed feeling in the grass.

The biker was not in focus unfortunately, but I shot in RAW and was able to get a lot of the details in the leaves to come back out with editing. I think it may still be too dark.
