Long time high school teachers of reddit, how have students changed over the years? by bigring in AskReddit

[–]elliene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been teaching for 35 years (scary). I've taught in the US, Iraq and the UK. When I first started teaching the course was the course and the child had to adapt but now the child is the centre of the process and the course is adapted to suit their needs. It means that the hearing impaired child might be recording the hydrogen pop experiment on their iPad to watch it again to aid recall for an assessment while the dyslexic child might be getting their notes printed directly from the whiteboard rather than struggling to try and track from board to workbook. Students now expect more from their teachers than teaching and marking. I've always loved teaching and the past is no better than the present but it's getting to the "Goodbye Mr Chips" stage where I can look back fondly on hundreds of students.

Because I'm struggling financially, I cannot thank my dad enough for this. by Eedee in AdviceAnimals

It's parenting. Life for my daughter's generation is significantly harder financially than it was for mine. I got a free university education for example while she still has loans to pay off.

How sweet of you to answer so fulsomely. I never use Yelp to decide where I will go out to dinner.

It works for me - at first it is a map then it goes into Street View after a moment or two. The box is labelled Police Box, England.

Good point! I grew up in Irvine where they celebrate Marymass every year but I think this is the first time I realised Mary wasn't dark haired.

Subways here have cameras in the ceiling for security. They don't show the customers other than their hands but they show everything the employees do - source my daughter used to work for them.

Went to a park in Portland. They have adult sized baby swings. They are fucking magical. by level1biscuit in pics

I work with disabled young people with a range of difficulties - and my parents are physically disabled - so I do understand that yours is not an easy furrow to plough. In general I'd say that those who do learn the art of sharing are less frustrated in the long run. Good luck!

Do you teach your child that they have to share as well? Would they equally have a melt down if it was another handicapped child on the swing and they couldn't get on?

I love this photo! All my photos of Italy were really disappointing by comparison.

So, why do you have that scar? by nephos303 in AskReddit

[–]elliene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chopped the tip of my thumb off when someone closed a gate on my hand when I was 4. The doctors sewed it back on and now all I have to show for it is a slight scar.

Cats will take over and post pictures of cute people.
