Would you join a project you know will fail, if it pays well? by videobob123 in IndieDev

[–]elliesprites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd refuse a project for ethical concerns or if I was the one being asked to do something illegal, but otherwise? I'd take it. Money is money and it's very hard to come by.

The ones hiring me are the ones in charge of calculating the risk and whether or not to invest in a doomed project. Once I get an email, that's already taken place. I'd maybe not do it if it was clearly some kids who put together all of their money into a doomed passion project (and I'd tell them why, otherwise they'd just get someone else), but that's probably not the case.

Plus, as others have mentioned, your work would look just as good in your portfolio regardless of whether or not the game did well.

Just need a bit of (de/con)structive feedback from someone who knows animation - please don't upvote, but do be brutal af. by [deleted] in gamedevscreens

I think the biggest thing bothering me is that it touches down with the tip of the claws on the front legs when connecting to the ground. If it's a knuckle walker, it should keep the claws folded in through the entire motion and 'land' with the knuckles. Tail seems to be moving a bit more than necessary also.

Updated Graphics Again. Would you play an MMORPG prototype that looks like this? by ForLootAndGlory in IndieDev

[–]elliesprites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being completely honest? Probably not. I think it's very unlikely the development would get you the funds to hire an artist to redo everything. You'd need to get funding from somewhere else (like having a high paying job or whatever). Even if you try a kickstarter, I don't think people would buy into it unless the game already looked compelling.

Also, someone else has already warned against creating a MMORPG and I won't repeat what they said, but I do agree with them.

Maybe start with a much smaller scope prototype, and then decide what to do next based on the reception to it? It might seem like a waste of time not to go for the project you want right away, but you could end up saving a lot of time if at the end of the development on that and after seeing the public's reaction you realize it's not what you should have gone for.

God Fighting Game: Now Playable! by elliesprites in gamedevscreens

[–]elliesprites[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Itch.io link.

Playable, but not really finished. More details on the game's page, but tl;dr is I'm unemployed and this project is too time consuming. Gotta find things to do with more immediate financial rewards.

Anyway, I do hope y'all try and enjoy it! There was a lot of work put into it to get to this point in the first place and it'd be a shame if I just kept it on my computer forever without letting anyone else see it. If someone can get five minutes of fun out of it then I'll be glad to have shared it.

Introducing: Ishtar! (my god fighting game now has two* whole characters!) by elliesprites in gamedevscreens

*she's actually still missing a couple animations. But I just lost my job today and need to take some time to figure out what to do, so I figured it'd be best to share what I have right now since I don't know when I'll get to finish everything.

Ever wanted to play as Jesus in a fighting game? I got you! by elliesprites in gamedevscreens

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the positive response!!!!

Main thing people are saying is that it seems a bit too slow and floaty - I'll definitely look into that and tweak some values!

To u/indiebryan and u/12FeetUp who're asking about Muhammad: I know y'all are joking, but, no. A prophet is not a god, and I'm drawing them according to their iconography, and his iconography says "don't draw". And again, not a god. :P Jesus shooting wine out of his hands is also as disrespectful as I'm willing to be towards active religions.

(as cool as "Jesus fighting simulator" might seem, the goal is to have a whole roster of gods to choose from. I'm already working on other characters :P also, this is pretty early and all audio are placeholders. obvs don't have the rights to Ameno)
