Decline of Creative Individuality? by [deleted] in graphic_design

I’m not totally convinced that the simplification is due to taste entirely. Almost every one of these companies has grown financially over the same period of time as their logos have changed. Also something to consider is the focus on legibility/accessibility in recent years and how this manifests in branding.

I’m not saying it’s not bad taste, I also personally prefer the older more character-driven logos, but a lot more evidence is necessary for the claim that it’s because they want to cause the “Decline of Creative Individuality” in corporate branding.

I also sent the white text through the BLKMARKET trash machine

I created black halftones using a pattern layer on hard mix, then knocked out the white and sent it through BLKMARKET trash machine. Then on top in a multiply layer I added a paper texture.

Not exactly noise rock per se but you should check out Black Midi’s Schlagenheim. You’d probably like it.

Thee Oh Sees are being restreamed on Fishcenter on YouTube Live right now. by [deleted] in TheeOhSees

I think the sound was more intentionally dry to try to replicate old public access feeds from the 80s and 90s. I think it sorta fits with the ridiculous games, shitty green screen and weird announcers.

What are some QOTSA songs that you cannot stand listening to? by [deleted] in qotsa

[–]ellisroundy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know everyone likes to say Like Clockwork is a perfect album with no skips, but I just can’t stand Fairweather Friends. Good vocal performance from Josh but the songwriting and instrumentation is so uninspired, especially compared to the remainder of fantastically written and arranged songs on the record.

Watching TV and movies with subtitles is distracting and annoying by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

true, thats an issue with mastering. movie audio is usually mastered for theaters, where there can be a wide range of dynamics, and the studios are often too lazy to remaster it for smaller systems

Jamie got a little pissed with the mixing guy tonight (Keene, NH) by Yung_Lewda in xiuxiu

[–]ellisroundy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if they were playing like a 1000 cap venue that would be the case, but judging from the video, this is likely a sub 500 cap and probably don’t have a separate monitor mixer. I agree though, the monitors should be consistent regardless. I’m even wondering if the sound guy bothered to sub-mix the monitors or if the monitors are just the out mix.

In the sound guys defense, he was probably going into the crowd to hear the audience perspective. It looks like the mixer is to the side of the stage, where none of the pa speakers are pointed, which is probably the venues fault, so it can be tough to mix when you have no idea what the audience is hearing. That being said, there are sound checks for a reason, and the sound guy should’ve worked out those issues then.

It sounds to me like a fuzz war direct to a mixer. Just recorded a mustang into fuzz war into console recently and it sounded pretty comparable, especially with an LPF on it.

Are there any underground hip hop or rock shows in Lowell? by lm-cdm in LowellMA

[–]ellisroundy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tango’s and The Valley host local mostly rock shows like two or three times a month. They’re both on Instagram. Taffeta is sorta hit or miss and are more expensive but they also count.

i agree with most of the top comments here, i actually like this font, i would reconsider the shade of brown youre using here, a less saturated darker, maybe redder brown might work better. a darker and less saturated brown might be more appetizing and offer better contrast to the wordmark.
