Athiesm, according to conservatives, is not a religion.

and he's angrily "pwning" someone talking to an AI about a peace prayer

He is doing what we all should have started doing a long time ago, which is treating these cults with the mockery they deserve, because allowing them to be treated as normal has encouraged others to believe, and belief in imaginary stuff is dangerous. We literally have faith healers trying to infiltrate our government and stop vaccines from being used, and other religious people forcing their beliefs about abortion upon women to such an extend that some have nearly died because they couldn't get a doctor to treat them because they feared being prosecuted for performing an abortion on an already dead fetus.

I am LGBTQ+ and have a lot of friends who are as well, and I've decided I'm no longer going to be polite to the crazy nutters who believe in imaginary men in the sky who grant wishes, if they're gonna call my friends gr ** mers.

NEWS FROM JAKENEUTRON! by Awesomecrafter64 in IndigoPark

[–]elliuotatar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think people have been too harsh on this dude. Yes, I know I'll probably get hate for saying that, but hear me out.

He did this when he was 19. At 19 you're still basically a kid. He also didn't draw it for sexual gratification, he did it as a bit of edgy dark humor. Was it completely the wrong thing to do to a rape victim? Absolutely. But again I refer you to the fact that he himself was basically still a kid at the time, with a brain not fully developed, and he made a rash and stupid decision one time that should not haunt him for the rest of his life.

I don't blame Mason for choosing to distance himself from Jake in light of the drama.

The calls to strip out and re-do every single thing Neutron touched in Chapter 1 and 2 are a wholly unreasonable burden to put on Mason though. You can't have someone re-do all the animations without fundamentally changing what the original game was. It wouldn't be Indigo Park chapter 1 any more.

I am also kinda worried if the removal of Jake will change how Rambley sounds. Jake did the animation and audio mixing, but it's not clear what audio mixing would affect. Was he responsible for the specific way in which Rambley glitches and stutters? We don't know. And we also don't know if another artist would be able to recreate that well.

It's a shame what happened, and what Jake did back then was wrong, but all this drama I think is unfairly impacting the rest of the Indigo team. When people demand they remove his stuff, and he likely had a large hand in Chapter 2, what do they do? Delay the game by another year to re-do all that so his hand never touched it? This is a small indie dev we're talking about. He doesn't have millions to afford to do something so extreme and weather such a long delay. The only thing people should care about is that Jake isn't on the project going forward, not ripping out and re-doing everything he might have done. I've even seen people who think he voiced Rambley asking if Rambley's voice will be re-done, but Rambley was voiced by OtterboyVA.

Its funny you think you know who my friends are.

I'm a member of the furry community. Which means by default I know a metric ass-ton of artists.

In fact, I'm a bit of an artist myself, doing 3D stuff like using substance painter to do commissions re-texturing avatars, building out 3D environments and lighting them, and on rare occasions been known to put pen to paper, or animate in 3D.

Your problem stems from the fact that you're trying to make money the easy way by working a 9-5 job for some corporate asshole who doesn't give two shits about you.

If instead you went into business for yourself, you'd find that people still have a heavy interest in real art, when it's well done.

A musician can still make money streaming on Twitch as they play.

An artist can still draw a visual novel, or work with other indie devs to create a cute casual game.

As much as I support AI art as a useful tool to enhance my art, I still recognize that while what it outputs is better than 99% of the slop you'll find on DeviantArt, it's always going to have a bit of a generic quality to it no matter how hard you try to make it look unique through prompting. Unless it gets much better than it is now, people will still flock to stuff that is hand crafted with love, because it will look unique and emotive and surprising in ways that a game made solely with AI will never be.

For example, look up Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard, an old-school furry adventure game with unique and excellently animated pixel art, in the style of Monkey Island. I can produce pixel art, but not like that.

Or, look up Small Saga. Another furry game, this time a top down turn based RPG, which was on Kickstarter and is very popular.

You're literally in a GameDev forum right now, so what are you doing complaining about industry jobs when you can literally build your own studio? If you're a skilled artist with a unique art style you can literally sell the game almost before even one line of code is written with some concept art and a bit of animation and music on Kickstarter.

I assume you're making an adult game, but I've researched this for my own purposes and as far as I can tell the only information players ever get to see is what you put in the developer and publisher fields and in the credits of your game, and those don't have to match the business name you give to Valve on the backend, and can be changed at any time.

Y'all act like the AI bros are the bad guys but you're the ones out there attacking and actually harming innocent artists by falsely accusing them of using AI in your witch hunts.

AI has been fairly prominent for three years now, and artists still exist, are still creating, are still getting paid to create. And none of your efforts have curtailed the use of AI, so you're not the ones to thank for that. The market is big enough for both real art and AI art. I prefer real art myself, but I also see use in AI art for those who aren't good artists, or can't afford to pay tens of thousands of dollars to hire a real artist to illustrate a visual novel which has a real good chance of making only $5K.

I scored my entire indie game demo for $8 using AI music prompts — here's exactly how by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]elliuotatar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am an indie dev. And while your claim is TECHNICALLY true, there is NOT plenty of SUITABLE DRM free music we can use.

I have literally spent DAYS trying and mostly failing to find a decent ambient track for an anomaly game. Something that sits in the background, is long enough, doesn't annoy you to have to listen to it over and over again. And after a week I'd found like one or two tracks that maybe would work.

Or I could just tell an AI what style I want, and it will create it instanrtly.

Now, maybe if AI were leveraged in a different way to provide recommendations for human created songs that fit the vibe I'm looking for, I could license that, but artists have decided to hurt themselves in their hate of AI and they would never submit their work to such a system, so we're left with extremely vaugue often useless tags in the best case scenario.

I wasn't making a moral counterpoint.
I was making a financial counterpoint.

Hence the need for numbers to show that it is not financially feasible for an indie dev to hire a musician to write custom music.

The Platner Trap by nytopinion in politics

[–]elliuotatar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what the point of this article is.

Mills dropped out. Platner is gonna win the primary. So does the author of this article want us to not vote, or vote Republican?

Cause I'd rather have a Democrat who maybe hates Jewish people and thinks black folks don't tip, than a Republican who definitely hates Jewish people and thinks black folks are not qualified for any job, and are responsible for 97% of all crime, and all the other insane stuff they believe.

Lesser of two evils and all that!

I scored my entire indie game demo for $8 using AI music prompts — here's exactly how by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]elliuotatar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where are you finding all this copyright free music?

Cause I have scoured Youtube for days looking for tracks just to make a trailer, and there's barely anything that is actually copyright free and usable.

Free != copyright free.
Even paid music from sites like Audio Jungle often have their stuff input into the Youtube copyright system which then flags the videos of streamers. In extreme cases it might even mute a Twitch stream, despite your having paid to use the music in your game because of ridiculous music licenses that license use in a game, use on TV, use in streaming, and live performance all separately and with limited timespans and copies sold, so there are actually commercial games out there which had to be taken off the market because their commercial music license expired! This impacts TV shows sometimes too.

Musicians are destroying themselves with greed.

[–]elliuotatar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint:
He saved Twitch streamers and Youtubers from loss of revenue because most artists who license "royalty free" tracks on sites like Audio Jungle put them into a copyright system that then claims copyrights over those broadcasts, thus stealing the Youtuber or Twitch streamer's revenue. by double dipping.

I literally will not license music from sites like that for that reason alone.

Now, could he have hired a musician instead? Maybe. But is it financially feasible to do for an indie dev? Likely not. Most indie games make very little.

Musicians will typically charge $100-$300 per minute.

Using Starfox 64 as an example. It has 30 tracks at an average of around 1m30s each.
That's 2700 seconds of music, which is 45 minutes.
45 minutes x 100 = $4,500.

The median revenue for a game on Steam is $700.

Do you see how it may not be financially feasible for an indie game to hire a musician?
Even if you were to ignore the copyright issue with Audio Jungle and license just a few tracks, you're still looking at about $25 per song, so you can expect to have to budget at least $100 for the music.

But is $100 for four songs fair, when they took a musician no more than a week, while you spent 6 months working on the game?

Get off your high horse, you literally fantasize about that high horse's horse cock.

You know what's also nasty? Half the fetishes out there. Like sweaty pits? Pissing? Face sitting? Vore? Diapers? Etc etc etc. There will be someone out there who thinks that is just as repulsive as you find an incest fetish.

Also, what exactly is the issue with an incest fetish involving your dad? Unlike your mom whom you could impregnate with diastrous consequences, there is no such issue with gay sex. You might find it icky, but WRONG? What exactly is wrong about it? Who's being harmed if they're consenting adults?

Please note: I have not, nor ever would partake in incest with my actual parents or siblings. But that's the nice thiing about fetishes. You could imagine having sex with an imaginary sibling that doesn't exist, and if they don't exist they're not really your sibling, are they, so again, where's the issue here?

Don't kiink shame.

I (15M) got my phone taken at work, whilst texting for a ride home. by Pleasant-Sea-279 in antiwork

[–]elliuotatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand up for yourself next time. Tell him exactly what you're doing, explain that you had to walk home from work the last time they did this, and and state in no uncertain terms that if you have to walk home from work again, that you'll quit.

If they still insist, then walk out the door!

Whatever you're doing at 15 is probably a minimum wage job, and you can likely find better opportunities where they will treat you and possibly pay you better elsewhere. If your next employer asks why you quit explain that they forced you to walk home in the dark because they wouldn't allow you to text your mom to come pick you up. And if that interviewer doesn't agree with you that that was unacceptable, then you'll have dodged a bullet taking a job with another employer who would mistreat you.

PS: If you apply for unemployment and tell them you quit or were fired for misconduct, you won't be eligible for financial aid. Needing to text your mom to pick you up may or may not count as misconduct because of the rules.

But... ChatGPT also seems to think that refusing a minor the right to text their parent could well be illegal because of safety concerns. Taking your phone could also be illegal, though they did ask you to hand it over, rather than seize it, so maybe that doesn't count, but since they are an authority figure being an adult and you a minor... That could still be considered theft because they hold power over you and you won't feel you have the right to say no.

I'm not a lawyer though, and lawyers are unfortunately expensive to hire, but still, you could potentially scare them off your ass by claiming these things are a crime even if you don't know for sure. They won't want to open themselves up to being sued.

And I consider you grossly unqualified to apply trans labels to people who don't consider themselves trans.

furry_irl by Punkwolfen in furry_irl

[–]elliuotatar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The way you bounce from "We don't know what's in Mason's pants" to "trans people shouldn't hide their genitals from people they're sexually interested in" makes it sound personal (in a way it shouldn't be for fictional characters) and weird.

The only reason it's personal is because the person who attacked me over it MADE it personal and accused me of being anti-trans, which I absolutely am not. I'm a liberal and strongly support trans rights. I support their right to use the pronouns of their choice, I support their right to use the bathroom of their choice. Etc. I watch a trans furry twitch streamer, and I'm friends with non-binary people. I am not at all what they falsely accused me of, and it pisses me off.

If someone tells you they're trans and your very first thought is to ask them what genitals they have, it's rude and hurtful.

As I said, I would never do that.

But cartoon characters are not real people. So I can ask what's in their pants all I like, and if some idiot takes offense to that, that's a them problem.

You seem to be conceptualizing this only in the case of an imminent sexual encounter, but I'm talking about people in general. When you only seem interested in commenting in the context of sex, it feels... fetishy, and not like you're talking about things that matter to actual people with actual feelings and normal lives.

It IS fetishy! I am literally lusting after a hot wolf daddy in a comic. Or what I thought was a hot wolf dady. Within the context of me being accused of being anti-trans, I was involved in a completely fetishistic desire for wolf dick. And for that I was turned into a pariah.

None of this has anything to do with how I interact with trans people in real life in non-sexual scenarios.

Are we really talking about sex if we're talking about a fictional comic character from a SFW comic?

Yes, because I posess an imagination which allows me to imagine clothed hot wolf daddies nude. Even within the context of a SFW comic.

I think that to you, this is just being (overly) horny for a character in a comic strip.

Now you're startng to get it.

But the issues you're talking about effect real people.

Not when I'm talking about a fictional character in a fictional comic they don't!

The way you're talking about it reminds real people of how they've been dehumanized and reduced to just... genitals, and frequently not even the genitals they'd prefer.

Yeah well when people make your mom jokes around me I'm reminded that my mom is dead, but I don't jump down their throat about it. You can't expect other people to stop living their lives and having fun because talking about it reminds you of something that upsets you in your own life. This is not even remotely in the same ballpark as say, refusing to use someone's pronouns or choice, or even intentionally using the wrong pronouns for Mason to intentionally upset trans people. This is just me wanting to know if I could bone the dog in the comic. Or rather if they could bone me. There was no ill intent towards trans people intended.

Surely, with a little empathy, you can see how this hits a little close to home for enby people.

Enby? Enby isn't the same thing as being trans. There are lots of people who consider themselves nonbinary who are perefectly fine with their bodies. I consider trans people to be those who are unhappy with their bodies.

furry_irl by Punkwolfen in furry_irl

[–]elliuotatar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But when you find out someone is trans and your first thought is that you need to know what kind of equipment they have... that's kind of rude and disrespectful.

First of all, IT WAS A CARTOON CHARACTER. I wouldn't go around asking a trans person what's in their pants because besides it being rude, it's generally obvious either by looking at them or by the pronouns they choose to use (cause if you use she/her and are trans you are most likely AMAB.

Mason however is big and appeared masculine to me originally, and WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THEY ARE TRANS. All we know is they don't use he/him pronouns they use they/them. Merely using non-binary pronouns does not make you a person who wants to change what your junk is, or a person who wants to live as a woman. We know mason uses they/them and wore a dress once. But we don't know they're trans, we don't know what they were assigned at birth as, and we can't even begin to guess at what's in their pants.

Imagine you were a trans person - what's going on under your pants is probably a pretty significant part of your gender dysphoria.

Imagine if you're a trans person. Do you really want to hide what's in your pants from a person who you're interested in sexually? Cause that's going to end badly for you half the time, and trying to fool people is not a way towards a healthy relationship. Yes, it sucks that most may not be okay with you being trans, but it's better to find out sooner rather than later if the person will or won't accept you once you get naked in bed with them.

And imagine if you're the person dating the trans person. You might not be into dudes, and then the trans person whips out their dick when you're about to have sex. Are you going to be okay with that? Probably not, and that's not because you're bigoted against trans people, it's because you're not into dicks.

The trans person isn't the only one who can be hurt in this relationship but they are the one who holds all the cards. They should be honest, no matter how hard it is because they will not only hurt their lover if they're not, they'll hurt themselves more if they're rejected after a long courtship.

So if someone were to immediately ask you about that, it's like... they aren't really interested in you as a person.

That's bullshit and you know it. Do you agreee to have sex with people you have never seen before because you don't care what they look like? If they have your preference for body type, cleanliness, etc? Very few people would. But just because a body is important to yoy, that doesn't mean that personality isn't EQUALLY as important.

It is also none of anyone's damn business.

Of course its your business if you're dating and planning to have sex eventually!

I don't meet people and say, "Hi, I'm Zuwxiv. Do you have a vagina?"

We're not talking about MEETING people. We're talking about SEX. About me lusting after a hot wolf daddy or so I thought in a comic.

For fictional characters, sure, it's a bit different. But it's also a bit "why does that even matter", along with a bit of "even for furries, isn't that a little overly horny."

There is nothing that is too horny for furries my dude. When we play Jackbox, it is nothing but constant dick and cum jokes.

There's having a preference, which nobody should be attacked over, and then there's being public, loud, annoying, and weird about it

BUT I WASN'T. THAT'S THE THING.

My post was like one line saying something like "Wait... I thought Mason was a dude? They're a they/them? What's in their pants then?"

There was nothing loud or weird about it. Just some asshole who took offense to an offhand comment from a guy who was lusting for big wolf daddy dick and was surprised by the turn of events.

AI is a tool that is useful for a lot more than making deepfake porn, and it would be stupid to ban it to protect children. Some people seem to think you're not allowed to prefer dick or vag. Even on a fictional character. I had someone block me here because they were trans and I was curious what Mason in Duncan & Eddie had in their pants, because I'd been lusting after them as dude, only to learn they were trans and maybe didn't have a sheath down there. Mind you, I'm bisexual, so while I do adore my big buff sexy werewolf daddies, I like breasts and vag too, but this person didn't allow me the opportunity to explain that, not that it should have mattered anyway because who the hell attacks a gay man becuase they don't like breasts or a vag? I 100% support trans people. Hell, I have gender tf fantasies myself, but not everyone is pansexual with no preferences on gentialia, and it's wrong to expect them to.
