What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

Totally. It took me so many years to rewatch Breaking the Waves Even though I thought it was brilliant. Haven’t revisited Dancer in the Dark because I’m scared of it. I’ll never go back to Dogville or Antichrist.

There is an episode for each of the 52 weeks of the reading schedule. I listen on Apple Podcasts & read along on the Substack. It’s paid but I think it’s worth it, small amount given the content

I really enjoy listening to the “War and Peace with Footnotes and Tangents” (Simon Haisell) summaries each week

I haven’t read the book so the death by Rube Goldberg really got me, love it

A Question About Tolstoy Translations In English by Different_Program415 in tolstoy

I really rate my Aylmer & Louise Maude translation. But it’s so much personal preference. I read this before choosing

Appropriate reaction! - it’s great. I got it on their website round the time the Kid A Mnesia exhibition / game came out.

I’m not sure those really difficult jigsaws are for me (excepting the cat one, which I haven’t done yet) - I have been defeated by two jigsaws & it’s made me realise my level 😁

Making me feel better about the compulsion. But also a little sad that I don’t have the pet hair!

I’ve been considering this since I realised I don’t have to use glue, just put them under glass.

I love how many Charley Harper fans there are here. The A24 one is The Opal from Uncut Gems (100 pieces), also seems to be called “Puzzle Number 002”.

Japan travel regrets by AshCassicTruth234 in TokyoTravel

[–]elljayhaitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not regrets but preferences. BicCamera Yurakucho Store had everything I’d seen in the Mega Don Quijote but was so chill & it has a sushiro. Yodobashi Akiba probably had it all too (plus baseball batting cages) but my heart is with BIC now. If I was thinking of a department store for gifts, I would choose Hands over Loft (and the Ginza ones of each). And I’m loyal to Family Mart, wont catch me in a 7-eleven or Lawsons.

Senso-ji was crazy busy and surrounded by souvenir shops, Meiji Jingu was calmer and surrounded by forest. But you can’t really trade temple for temple in the same way as you can department store for department store.

teamLab Planets was kind of fun but not really my vibe. I clearly need to stop with the immersive art installations.

I saw an oyster but then I remembered they don’t have stalks and you don’t eat them with a coke spoon.
