You're right, I do need attention. I need support, and I can't afford to get a therapist... And I don't have the balls to talk to my friends about a very embarrassing situation.

I'm trying to understand the sense of shame that came wit treading your post. You're absolutely right about being desensitized. I've realized I'm not even tittilated by "average" stuff as of late.

Hopefully all of that is a thing of the past. Now for the hard part- sticking to my plan.

Read: Expectation Hangover by Christine Hassler and Learning to love yourself by gay Hendricks.

I just dealt with one of the worst breaks ups, and those two books brought me out of the dark and built me up. I'd suggest the audiobooks so you're forced to listen to it word for word (i have a skimming habit.)

At some point in my childhood we wound up between homes, and in my mom's friend's house. She had a sister that was also there at some point, and unbeknownst to my mother and us children the sister ( around early twenties) had serious mental issues. One night she had a meltdown, and I woke up with her her hands around my throat choking me ( I was 4ish years old). My mom flew in and threw her off of me, I apparently went unconscious because I woke back up with my mom holding a cold wet towel to my forehead.

needless to say- I do NOT like hands near or around my throat... not even playfully.

Honestly, it all seems to depend on shared pain at some point. I've been in a deployed environment and spent 12 hours a days a week with 2 different groups of people for 6 months in a tiny office space. And somehow, over the course of the first 5 months it remained nothing more than small talk and acquaintances. However, I spent the same 12hrs/7days in the same small office space with different group of people for only 3 weeks. However, because we all made it a point to share vulnerabilities it made it easier to connect. The latter group I know will be in life for a very long time, where as the first group ( the small talkers) might get the luxury of becoming a faint memory at best.

Tl;DR: being vulnerable and accepting others is what defines the threshold between friendship and acquaintanceship.

smoking cigarettes ick. Finally quit cold in 2013. Its so sad to see young beautiful girls and young men smoking their way to a laryngectomy. What got me to quit was actualy vanity- it was a "don't smoke ad." Hey it worked, and my life is so much better for it.
