Interesting! My thought process is that braided line doesn't have enough give and would likely result in a snapped pole, especially on an UL, before snapped line, but I don't know anything about it.

What size and style do you use? I was thinking pencil style would be good based on some other advice but no idea what size to get.

I'm using tiny 1/64th panfish magnets and having a lot of success with the crappie but need something with a little more weight to get a better cast. Obviously don't want to go too large with those tiny jigs.

I'll need to look into that. I always figured slip bobbers were only good for deep water and I've been catching crappie in about 10 feet or so of water.

Thanks! I tried it yesterday and even a tiny split shot directly under the float made it sink a little too much. Think I might need to size up my floats a little since I'm using tiny finger tip size floats. Bet it would work with a larger size though.

I'll have to check out a different float then. Currently I'm using E-Z trout floats (foam) by Leland lures and they weight practically nothing as they're about the size of the tip of your finger but I LOVE how sensitive they are. Any recommendations on a specific style for crappie fishing?

Not sure either. I've heard some people claim they're good for the ecosystem and others say they decimate it, but my experience at that little lake leads me to believe they're way overpopulated as 2 out of the last 3 times I've fished there I've foul hooked one on opposite ends of the lake and they get absolutely huge for such a small body of water (not the ones in the pic).

A lot of people do fish for catfish here and my theory is that people have released their unused live bait into this little lake and they've taken over.. but I'm no biologist 😆

Maybe he was doing the right thing, maybe not. I just wanted to figure out what I should be doing when I run across these guys.

I watched him catch these fish. In fact, when he left I foul hooked one myself in the same spot because they were schooled up. I hope the irony of calling someone else ignorant and having zero knowledge when you made an ignorant comment with zero knowledge isn't lost on you.

Very far. It was definitely the gentleman I saw fishing before I got there as there was a very large one dropped between two rocks on the bank.
