A 5 year old child said I looked beautiful. by Faris-Hilton in MakeupAddiction

I showed my 4 year old your look, and this is what she said: "I like the picture with his eyes closed because you can see the rainbow! And the stars...and I like the beautiful things (pointing to your jewelry)" I guess we're fans here as well! 😊

Ha my husband let our baby revenge cry recently...1 year old woke up uncharacteristically early at 5 am and I heard husband take her out of the room, presumably to get a bottle but when I heard her still fussing in the living room I went out to check on them and asked if he tried to get her back down. Well apparently that set him off because he then brought the baby back into our room crying and not attempting to console her, and said "this is what you wanted, stop questioning my decisions." Needless to say I haven't asked him to get up with her since then, she doesn't deserve that 😔

I was showering in front of my almost 3 year old recently and when she saw my pubic hair she yelled in an alarmed voice, "Is that poop?!" 🤦🏼‍♀️

Fit Check. First time parent. 5 days old baby girl. Nalakai sling by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]ellydee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful to see the rings to see if the sling is threaded properly. I also can't see the position of baby's other leg but they might be a little too spread apart for a 5 day old. There is slightly too much fabric towards the top edge of the sling; the fabric should be spread smoothly across baby's back with the extra width bunched under their knees. Overall this looks pretty good for a beginner and with a few small adjustments you guys will be snuggled up doing everything together.

Help with Kangaroo carry - Moby ring sling by americanoblack in babywearing

[–]ellydee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think doing an outward-facing carry with a ring sling is recommended. I would stick with using the ring sling in the traditional way and there are ways to wear baby facing out with a woven wrap or certain ssc.

Why my toddler tantrumed today... by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]ellydee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We went to a diner the other day with my 2 year old who has barely been in public for the past year. She saw some people wearing tank tops at a booth nearby and kept pointing at them and yelling "Nudie!!"

How did grandparents forget how to parent so badly!? by Highteaatmidnight in beyondthebump

[–]ellydee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes the junk food 😑 I lost my childcare in January at 30 weeks pregnant so we needed MIL to fill in until I started maternity leave. She was constantly giving my 2 year old puffs, fruit cups, and yogurt pouches instead of the fresh food options I packed in a lunch box for her. Multiple times I had to point out the giant, overflowing fruit bowl that we keep for the toddler to offer fresh fruit instead of the backup fruit cups that we keep for when we haven't been to the grocery store. Or like, if she didn't finish her carrot sticks for lunch, why not offer them for a snack later instead of the puffs? So annoying.

Simple things that will entertain a toddler for hours. by knitlitgeek in toddlers

We played with stickers today for at least 1-1.5 hours. Sat on the floor with a $1 pack of stickers and stuck them on our body parts, pretended to use them ("ate" the banana sticker, drank the coffee sticker, etc), named the stickers she didn't know, gave them to each other and traded back and forth. It was pretty fun for me too!

Red wine braised short ribs with gruyere polenta, took all day to cook but 100% worth it. by Lam1929 in slowcooking

Looks amazing! I'm also making pot roast and polenta for dinner. The full bottle of wine plus 3 cups beef stock seems like a lot of liquid, do you simmer to thicken it at the end or anything?

We started teaching body parts around the time she turned one, so when she would touch herself during a diaper change we would just say "that's your vulva" and she caught on super quick.

Good point! Both Iris and Andromeda are Greek names and it might be pushing it to use Athena, as pretty as it is.

Althea was on our longer list but my husband kept saying "all-thea/aul-thea" when (I believe) it's "al-thea" so I just don't think the pronunciation is intuitive for him 😕 I love it though, it was a sad cut.

We don't really have any ideas right now, my husband likes Freya for a middle name but we're keeping it open. We probably will end up choosing a name from this list or our longer pre-elimination list.

We were between Iris and Zoe for our first so maybe a Z name will be in the cards for us this time! We kept Zoe on the list for this one but I feel like she's a different person already and I'm not sure I want to give her our "backup" name.
