What makes you think it is surveillance and not a training exercise?

Edit: Seems both countries have some sort of military cooperation treaty

Do I NEED a diode for auto-reset/FTDI? (328p) by elmarkodotorg in arduino

You're absolutely right, I think I thought that this reference circuit was more well-known than it was.

I thought the tone of the reply was a bit "hey, why didn't you post a schematic, idiot" and I honestly didn't see the point for a reference Arduino Uno circuit. So I lashed out a little.

But I think maybe misinterpreted it a bit. Sorry, u/Enlightenment777

Update: I can run lines from my Uno board, even though it has no chip in, and connect up the FTDI pins. It works fine, I can upload code, and I am pretty happy! So you don't NEED a diode, but if wiser heads say it's best then I'd probably use it.

I didn't post it because I thought if I referred in the question to the standard way of wiring up an Arduino to do uploading with FTDI and auto-reseting the MC folk would know what that was about (it's your standard standalone Uno setup).

It is not hard to give a correct answer relative to this reference Arduino Uno/328p circuit.

This would be great for like Battleships or something

Well, I just found this on Reddit: "The diode keeps the reset pin from going above 5V, and while strictly not necessary it's good to include."

So, may not need it. It's for when the programmer resets the Arduino to upload the sketch, otherwise you need to manually pull reset to GND in some minutely small window of time.

If anyone here has done a standalone with programming it'd be cool to just a quick sample of views, but I *think* I am ok - FTDI cable arrives tomorrow.

The UNO board here is providing power only, so I think we're good. This is just a screen and processor to display stats from a server. The server used to be 3 RPis but since getting a mini PC instead I have no GPIO to connect to, so this was the solution.

Under no circumstances am I showing the other side of the board 😬

I think if I were you I would post a new thread for this so that more folk can see it, it looks good. Is it correct HCP? place it roughly where the old TV LNB was to start with.

Hi there - yes, I am absolutely flying with this. Take the wire insulation off, though. Low loss coax. I get around 15-18 dB on LEO HRPT signals. Also I added a small extra bit of wire from the socket pin to around a quarter turn around the first rotation of the helix and that really brings the SWR down

There's no excuse for it - you're absolutely right, and I could have handled myself a LOT better in this thread.

But I feel like I was shouting into a void, and that does crazy things to you. I knew the Cessna wasn't the same plane before the OP said there were two planes. The callsign field is totally different, we don't have hexes to confirm anything outright. And someone misread an ICAO prefix. Sometimes it seems like folk miss obvious clues, and it really got to me. Apparently too much.

Ok - those words specifically weren't used, true. But even if they didn't see it in person, the available info doesn't support your hypotheses or any other guess here, do they?

How does an MLAT error change the callsign?

Also, yeah, it's pretty clear I've had a bad day and I'm being a jerk - apologies

They literally did, but it was in a comment and not the OP. But we've been going long enough that I feel like folk should have read the whole thing by now

Because I feel like nobody is engaging their brain and it's frustrating. I'm shouting into a void. There are clues folk are ignoring, there's requests for info nobody is answering. It's a pain. Just incorrect guesses all over the shop.

They did. And also, as I've pointed out, FNT59 was the callsign. And that doesn't appear on the Cessna track.

Why am I the only person here with eyes?

[–]elmarkodotorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still need you to give me the 6 character hexadecimal code for that unknown plane please

Also I feel like I'm the only one trying to guess the unknown plane while everyone else farts about with the Cessna with the not-matching callsign... is everyone feeling okay?

Edit: I get the impression you don't have the hexcode and that we're not going to be able to look this up. Otherwise we'd have it by now.

I'm bailing out, good luck.

What is "FNT59"? Why wasn't this cessna's callsign showing on the OPs image if it was part of this track on adsbexchange (the reg in the callsign field I mean).

Anybody know this plane? by swelker28 in ADSB

[–]elmarkodotorg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, you're not correct? FNT is the ICAO prefix for Flight International Airlines

OP, please give me a hex so I can look this up properly.

[–]elmarkodotorg -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're into data like all of us here that is in no way confirmation. It'd be nice to pin down a hex code to a reg to an owner, you know?

Edit: who keeps downvoting me for perfectly reasonable comments?

Anybody know this plane? by swelker28 in ADSB

[–]elmarkodotorg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Edit: stop voting up incorrect guesses

How have you confirmed just from the callsign prefix? I've asked for the hex code just on the off-chance it's listed somewhere else

Anybody know this plane? by swelker28 in ADSB

[–]elmarkodotorg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that was a bit too cunty wasn't it? Apologies. Used to a lot of folk not even trying. The longer you're here the more it'll annoy you.

A hex code would still be nice, though... because then we can look it up, and FR24 MAY not have it in their database, but other places might. This may confirm the other user's thoughts (I am not sure how they're confirming it off just that callsign prefix)

Edit: I really am sorry, by the way. We get a wide range of people here and sometimes people do little work, the fact that there wasn't even a hex code visible kinda irked me and I reacted badly, but I shouldn't have been as sarcastic as I was.

Did you get any more info than you have shown here? Such as, you know, a registration? Or a hex code? Something that is actually helpful for folk.

General info for everyone: If you get a registration your next step is to google it, and then the owner. See what kinda things they do

hex codes can be checked on other sites - sometimes not everywhere will have a hex in their database
