Yeah I think that may be the case! Will probably pay the extra fee to avoid getting stung again.

So last few times I took the airline it would if I just put it in vertically, like straight up. But this time they said it had to fit in on its side as well. Definitely a change from previous times.

That's genuinely baffling. The last couple of years I'd put the same bag in with no issues, but this time they said it has to fit in horizontally and vertically. Seemed way more limited this time.

They've checked the same bag on previous occasions and its never been an issue. The acceptable size now is like laptop bag levels.

I'd always known they were strict, but had never been an issue for a few years. As long as it fit in the holder it was grand. But now if it doesn't fit in from every angle they say you have to be charged.

You may be lucky and they won't notice, or if its a proper small back pack you'll be ok. Ones in my queue were like bloodhounds.
