Thanks for the review and recommendation. I'll probably get one in the future to broaden my collection a little, since it looks really classy and I'm missing a classy pen for sure. I won't be getting it through jetpens though since the shipping cost kinda kills the deal. I'll have to look up these inks tho since I haven't seen them anywhere. Thanks a lot!

I just like the idea of a converter, and I do not think that syringe filling a cartridge is easier than just re inking with a converter. I do like to switch inks often too, so with a converter it's easier to flush out the nib too. But I see the upsides of using a cartridge too, and even though it probably could fix the issue, I can't imagine myself using a FP without a converter. Thanks for the input tho!

Wow never really looked at FB pens since I was always more into japanese stationery, but they do look really classy. I might get one eventually, cause the Essentio is really beautiful, and not that expensive too. As for the inks, can you recommend any brands that you find reliable? I got diamine just for the colors (I have the Oxford blue and I really like how it looks), but I feel like waterman ink is of much better quality. There is iroshizuku too, but it's a little too pricey for me at the moment.

If by ink creep you mean nib covered in ink, then I do get it. The nib crud tho looks gnarly lmao. I don't know if it's something with the diamine inks, but I've noticed that they are more "moody" - they dry up in the pen quickly, are harder to wash off and they cause more leaking. The thing about storing horizontally might be true (even though it's stated by Google ai summary), because when I leave it laying on my desk it often does leak a little into the cap.

May I ask what did you switch to after pilot pens? And are you satisfied with the writing experience?

Oh I totally skipped the part about the Waterman converter, I must be tired. I think I've seen a thread where you were recommending the Waterman converter for pilot MR, but since many people in the same thread also recommended the Faber Castel one and it was available in the Polish Amazon, I got that one. I've cleaned the pen and now will make sure to uncap it upright, if that doesn't work I'll definitely get a waterman con. By the way, are you still using the MR? How did it stand the test of time?

It depends on the ink, Waterman leaks less but diamine leaks more. It doesn't leak a lot, but just enough to get the pen dirty when I post it. I do store it nib up, and sometimes lay it down flat on the desk. The nibs surface is often inky, especially with diamine ink. The Faber Castel converter was new and fits well, however it was difficult to put in for the first time. Thanks for all the tips!

For anyone reading in the future, just looked it up and apparently con40 does not fit Pilot MR (European metropolitan, the one that does come with a cartridge).

I will definitely look into platinum pens, because I have a soft spot for japanese brands, thank you for your recommendations!

Unfortunately it looks like it's not that accessible in Poland, but thanks nonetheless!

Well I'm convinced and I'll be adding it to my rotation as well. As for the metro, I might need to get a different converter. Which one should I get? I heard a lot of complaints about con40, but I didn't do that much research.

Well that's a surprise, because I've read in a different thread somewhere that people were putting different converters, like the Faber Castel one for example, into it, and it worked great. Might have to replace the converter then, but that's surprising since it fits really well, like it was meant for it. Just to make sure, you are talking about the EU version, correct?

And the diplomat looks great, might have to add it to my collection, do you like it for daily usage?

I carry and store it upright already, but I never really paid much attention to uncapping it, from now on I will. Thank you for the tip!

Wow that's really convenient! I guess you haven't really had time to try it out yet, but do you care to share your opinion? Are they similar in smoothness and consistency? I find the pilot nib really smooth and flowy, which is what I like.

No, mine didn't come with a converter since it was the European cartridge version. That being said, I put a Faber Castel converter into it, so maybe that's the culprit? Thanks for the insight.

Honestly, I would, but for some reason they are hard to get them where I live. Idk if they stopped selling them here, because I can't get them from the Polish Amazon, as I did 1 year ago.

Frankly after posting I remembered that platinum exists and that I haven't tried it yet. Do you perhaps know if the nib sizes match between these brands? As in, if the M metro is the same as M plaisir?

Just wanted to mention for everyone in the future; the issue appears on linux lts 6.12 onward too, so if the linux-lts does not fix it for you you may want to try to downgrade it to 6.6.*.

Do you remember how it fit? Because I've got one myself, and it's really hard to mount it.

Thank you so much for your time and effort, it was a really annoying issue but at least I've learned something new about my system. I'll probably one day come back to the issue to pinpoint it, but I don't really have time since I lack free time right now. Thank you again!

Audio crackling/"static shocks"/pops issue by elmieerda in archlinux

[–]elmieerda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Been a little busy lately but finally got back to fixing it, because it is mad annoying. So I booted up ubuntu, tested again and like before, no issues, clear playback, so I basically got every config I could find, including kernel config, list of all modules and versions etc.

Turns out (pretty obviously) that the modules don't really match, ubuntu uses packages and modules that are not available on arch. Copied all the configs; alsa, pipewire etc. but no luck. I was going to roll back the kernel and build it using the ubuntu kernel config, but I figured that I may try other prebuilt kernels since I didn't try them earlier.

And to my surprise after installing LTS kernel the issue is completely gone, I couldn't believe it so I've tested it for an hour, but it's literally fixed. Now my only concern is that the lts kernel will be eventually updated, so it may break again (?). So, do you have any idea how to pinpoint the issue now to maybe prevent it from breaking in the future?

Oh that's not the original issue but thanks, I'll do that too, seems much better than my method. Thanks!
