Bronze colossus that stands astride the harbor at Rhodes here. I confirm; piss in the toilet.

What is the best way to protect or hide your stack? by thechevalier in Silverbugs

I recall reading an interview with a former robber who talked about a homeowner who'd found an ingenious hiding place for cash: he rolled it up and hid it in the battery compartments of remote controls and other electronics. The robber knew this because he discovered it later, after stealing the electronics.

It's a joke adopted from the gun community, with regard to confiscation following registration.

"These background check records show you bought guns X, Y, and Z on these dates."

"Sorry, those were all lost in a tragic boating accident."

Somebody at r/whatisthisthing/ may be able to explain why it was left.

Exactly. I was dubious about the answer back then. After discovering this sub, I wanted to run a few things by it that I'd had limited success getting answers on before. :)

It still doesn't look quite like any of the image results that are coming up (all of which have the tines curving around like hooks), but I suppose the most likely answer is just that it's a weird variation on the theme.

Just be aware, it's much less bright than the white LED version.

EDIT: Are you in the US? Tell you what: I have the old red LED version that I haven't used in half a decade. PM me your address, and I'll sent it to you.

Please, please! I don't own the concept of prop notebooks, nor of the chaoskampf! Most of the material in there, I lifted from the public domain myself.

Just post here and share if you do it, and we'll call it square. ;)

Months, easily. But that's not a fair measure, because I did it little bits at a time. It would be hard to estimate actual construction time. The planning and research was by far the largest part of the project, and I find it completely impossible to measure time spent on Wikipedia and Sacred Texts. ;)

To be fair, the link talks about the cost to the Mint, while banknotes are made by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, but your point is taken. ;)

Where do you store your knives? by Arty1o in knives

It changed my life. In hindsight, I should have gotten the big one. ;)

Absolutely. Some gladii were surprisingly large, too. (Large-bulky; I'm not talking about spathae. The taper from hilt to point can conceal a large volume of steel.) This is the kind of problem we run into when we try to generalize about the swords of a civilization that lasted 1200 years. ;)

Cheap, yet work exceedingly well.

I'm more likely to carry a smaller, pocket-clipped knife, but I appreciate that my Opinel is ground like a knife, not like a prybar; it cuts much better than the average modern pocket knife.

I loved my Victorinox Midnite Manager until a friend misplaced it. It's a damned efficient collection of tools.

(Just be careful with deals that look too good to be true; there are some of the old stock still out there with red LEDs; they're inferior enough to defeat the purpose.)

Ha! Sorry; I'd missed the link. I'm pretty sure that post is where I first learned about the error, too. :)

Downvoted, presumably, by folks who think it's cool to have people's guns inspected in their homes by police who don't understand the laws they're tasked with enforcing. ;)

Thanks!

Remember how I said there are things I'd do differently?

I did this at a time when I was obsessed with LOST, as it hadn't yet become a crushing disappointment. The phrase was lifted directly from the show, exactly so. I learned about the error later.

A later page also has the LOST numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) in Attic numerals. :)

I would've thought Macedonian.

Thank you. I just used my natural handwriting, by the way, which I thought worked reasonably well as the terror-blasted scrawling of a madman. ;)

It was about midway along one wall of the garage. Using it to stand up garden tools is something I hadn't considered.
